Getting an ipod, need PIE advice...
I was in the same boat not long ago but already had a PIE unit for my XM, this is what Logjam responded back to me with and what I needed to purchase to run my IPOD and keep it charged. You probably only need the second one unless you want to add XM or Sirius. You can email them with questions, customer service is very good. Hope this helps.
To keep your XM connected and add an iPOD interface that will charge the iPOD as well as directly connecting the audio with digital quality, you will need to purchase the AUX3, seen here: http://www.logjamelectronics.com/soundaux3.html. This will convert the single auxiliary input you currently have to three auxiliary inputs. Then you will also need the UNi-POD universal iPOD interface, seen here: http://www.logjamelectronics.com/pieunipod.html, to connect the audio from the iPOD and charge the iPOD while connected.

OK, just found this device also, the UPAC-frd24. Looks like a good item as for functionality.
$110 from Best Buy.

This link gives the model years, but price is too high.

If you are ready to run an Ipod in your truck don't bother with the PIE. Replace the HU to an IPod interface HU. I put the Apline ida-x100 in mine. No CD player but it runs the Ipod or thumb drive effortlessly through a parallel port.
1000's of songs and cover art at the touch of a button. The ipod stays in the ash tray never to be seen or touched.

Crutchfield has the for only $259. now and that includes shipping, wiring and mounting kit.

The Alpine is a nice unit but I think he stated that he wanted to keep his stock HU.
onlinecarstereo.com is definately cheaper, they have some great sales on certain items. Bought a sub for my son's jeep last fall that was about $80 cheaper than Crutchfield's.

I'm just trying to find out what exactly will work for my application.
I'm thinking an 07 deck with the auxiliary connection in the tray may not work with my 05 since I don't know where the aux connection wire comes from off the wire harness on the 07 truck.

Stealth,
I ran my stereo through a pie adapter. The same one you listed above. I paid $99 for it. I the got the cable that goes from RCA to 1/8" stereo plug from Radio shack. While there I also picked up a 1/8 female to 1/8 female connector and mounted it in the dash flush next to the lighter socket. I can plug in my MP3 player with a short cable and hit the AUX button and poof all works well. If I unplug the cable, it looks completely stock and factory. I can send you pictures if you like. It performs flawlessly and the sound quality is fantastic. I also wanted to retain the stock look but I wanted better sound. I replaced all the factory drivers with high end units and I installed a Bazooka tube under the rear seat for some boom. Overall, the stereo doesn't sound like a stock unit. The highs are crisp and clear, the mids are awesome, and the bass is supplied by the tube. All in all, it is pretty impressive for minimal $$$. If you have any questions, please feel free to PM me.

The interface unit I am using is at http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1202650467219
The additional item it offers versus the one Stealth linked is the ability to later add HD radio.
As a couple others have mentioned, the con of using the stock radio is the navigation through your music. Personally, I just put the iPod on shuffle most of the time, so it's not an issue.
One thing to check is which generation of iPod you have and what is supported by the interface. In the latest generation, Apple changed the charging mechanism from being able to use the Firewire line of the cable to only using the 5v line. Many older interfaces do not work with the newest iPods (such as this one: http://www.peripheralelectronics.com?ProductId=276 )

Thanks guys for all the comments and tips.
IB has a conflicting software problem with the old gallery system, and they are working on it. Everyone who has an old gallery set up cannot get to them. I have lots of pics in my old gallery, and I wanted to pull one of my old fuel filter install pics to use in a thread. I had to find it in my computer and download it to photobucket (though I could have loaded it into my new album) so I could use it.
It's a pain not to have access to them, but the old galleries will be back up at some point. When they do come back I recommend moving the images to a new photo album here.
