2005 FX4 won't start-No electrical power

A friend called and asked for my help. He went to start his 2005 FX4 F150; put the key in the ignition switch, turned it, and then he heard a click noise and nothing happened. It has no electrical power; no lights, nothing turns on.

I did a google for a TSB but couldn't find anything like that and then I searched this forum with the same results. Unable to take it out of Park.

He has a Superchips Flashpaq Tuner which he used to flash the PCM but that was months ago with no issues.

Does anyone have any ideas? I suspect a broken ignition switch or an inline fuse???

TIA

Dan

Check the battery then go from there. There is some sort of cut-off when voltage drops below a certain point, the entire truck shuts down.

I agree.. Check the battery, it's connections, and the fuses. With no power anywhere, you are looking at something power distribution related, start from Battery and work your way out.

I'd bet money on the battery being cooked. On these trucks they just seem to work fine one day and then they are dead the next. I went through 3 on my 05 and am already on my second one in my 08.

My battery is getting old, 4 years old now. I may have to head this issue off before my battery buys the farm.

So where did this end up? I remember several months ago I was getting in the truck at the store and hit the ignition and nothing. Went through the gears a few times and hit the ignition and again nothing. Got pissed hit the wheel a few times and then she started up.

My 04's battery is starting to show the signs of dying. Doesn't crank over as fast as it used to and if I have been listening to the radio for a while without the engine running it is very slow to turn over.

DOH! 4 year old vehicle...that is not long for a battery to pack it in, at least in my experience.

I guess it's one of those things where you have to decide whether or not you want to take the chance and let the Stock battery ride it out and possibly have it leave you somewhere you don't want to be stuck, or swap it out with a quality product you know you wont have to worry about for a long long time.
I'm going with the Optima Red Top battery here shortly.

Mine did this same thing when I drove to a store. Was inside 5 minutes, came out, dead as could be. Nothing but the security system clicking. Factory battery was 3 years old. New battery fixed it.

Battery terminal connection or battery is dead itself. Battery should beable to hold a 200AMP load for 10-15 seconds and not dip below 9.6v.

Just to finish up, y'all were correct. It was a bad battery. He replaced it last night and all is well.

Really appreciate the replies y'all.
