Whats the deal? My 00 tailgate was heavy, and my 07 tailgate is light as a feather... Does my 07 have a cheap tailgate?

What the heck is that? I thought it was just lighter...Really? How can I see it?

 

There is a torsion spring in the tailgate that assists with the lift so that it isn't as heavy. I took the tailgate off my 04 and also the one off my 94, the 04 is actually heavier, but only by a couple lbs.

shines if you look along the bottom of the tailgate skin you can kinda see the sheetmetal is a little wavy from left to right, due to the twist the spring has on the body panels... Go to the detailing section and check out someone's pictures that has a nice reflection shot across the tailgate, and notice how the reflections are distorted and warped compared to the top half of the tailgate.....


take this one for example, notice how the reflection line is fairly straight on the upper reflection on the left half of the tailgate, and the bottom section is much more wavy reflection

Almost the same thing happened to me with my fathers 05 F350. That SOB is heavy when you aren't expecting it.

 

It goes further than the tailgate. The entire bed of that truck just about broke off during the 09 F150 comparison videos.
