Question 07 Fuel Filter

OK I read all posts on this, and I got one for you. I have a 2007 FX4 build date 1/1/07 5.4 NOT FFV owners manual says FG986B so I go to dealer and buy one dealer agrees this is the right one for my truck. Pulled old off and it is FG1083 had to replace old one and go back to dealer to get right one. The 986 is smaller in tubes had fuel flying every were, 1083 fits perfect no leaks. So you know what I think of the manual, what else is going to be wrong in this book? Truck has 16,000 miles on it, were can I get the right info for my truck. I do not want to go through this every time I do something to it.

I want to know why people are changing fuel filters so frequently, I guess it could be a yearly but my yearly's include a few more miles, lol. Glad to see other practice preventative maintenance.

I change my fuel filter at 15,000 to 20,000 miles. There is some nasty stuff that comes out of the one's I take off.

Is changing the fuel filter as simple as changing the oil? I'm gonna sneak up on 75k miles here in a few and would like to change it myself.

Fuel Filter

Well if it helps I use Texaco only, it has that cleaner in it. Never had a problem in any of my Fords. And my truck runs real good.

The brand of gas has little to do with what the filter catches. It's the trash in tanks at the stations and the sediment in your gas tank. I always use Shell, Texaco, Chevron or Conoco as they have a good detergent, plus I try to buy t newer facilities where the tanks should be newer and cleaner. The detergent is for the unside of the engine.

Changing it is normally, very simple. It does require a special tool that cost less than $10. Takes about 15 minutes, unless there is rust in the clips. If you have never had it changed at that mileage, you are way over due.

I bought my truck at 61k and it had been changed & lubed and everything, but all I have done since was replace my air filter and oil. According to the owners maintainance manual 75k is the next tune up time so I want to be ready.

I cut a fuel filter open and I have it sitting on a shelf in my garage. Roughly 8k and there was a good amount of sediment in it.

I've showed it to everyone that has ever talked about truck maintenance, and if they are in my garage, I show them, and they are like.....
