I changed the oil on my truck the first time and it wasn't too bad. My parents bought a new Jeep Compass with this little dinky oil filter... that thing was like superglued on! Granted I just drilled a hole in it and used the screwdriver trick... but it was a pita nonetheless.

 

Changing the oil for the first time was a PITA. The filter was on so tight I had to take it down to the dealer just to get it loose.

 

I let the dealer do the first one because of the gorilla that screws on the filter at the factory. Since then I can unscrew it with my hand only, no tool needed.

Tasca Ford changes my oil..... I don't think they had a problem

 

Mine was on there fairly snug.. Not to mention it's location makes it super easy to work with.

But after that OEM filter came off I threw a K&N on there and have used them with Amsoil ever since. Much easier to deal with.

Oh wait... I get my oil changes/tire rotations/owners manual recommended services for... wait for it... here it comes... F-R-E-E...

I've heard they're a real biotch though.

 

I wouldn't let the dealer change my oil if they PAID me..

When my mother in law found out how much my oil was, she said I should go to Walmart where they change it for less then $35 and have my truck vacuumed

 

I've watched (without them knowing) the mechs work on my truck, and I can honestly say they baby it just as much if not more than I do. They even let the rpm's even out b4 putting her in gear.

No need for them to vac it out, cause I don't let the int. get all crappy.

High caliber of employees @ Wallyworld though. They offer the "Bill Me Later" option for oil changes too?

I had bad experiences with dealers.. The kids driving it back to the bay only a few hundred feet away and revving it like I cant hear it.... I've found things missing after the fact, and have had them forget to tighten the drain plug leaving a trail of oil out to where they gave me the key with a mechanic running out and following the trail

Plus I prefer a higher caliber oil.

I hear ya... when I had my '03 Escape, I let a Ford dealer change my oil and filter for $9.95 (back in the day when this stuff was still cheap!) with a coupon. Well, I fell in for the deal, because it was the same amount or even less than if I did it myself. Well big, big mistake... they overfilled it with oil by 1 quart and left the oil cap off. Drove it home and noticed this funky smell of burning oil. I figured they spilled a little on the exhaust when they were changing it. I got home, and it was retched! Not only did it coat everything in my engine compartment with oil, but it was smoking like crazy! They totally forgot the oil cap! I called them up, and they told me to drive it back down... with nothing in the oil cap. So, I sarcastically asked them if I should put something in the filler so it would spray... they said, "No, just drive it!" I was like... WTF!? So I got a shop rag, using common sense, and wedged it in there and it worked. So I got it to the shop, and I go in, and they hand me my oil filler cap, and they said, "Sorry, just screw it on." So I questioned them about the mess and they told me to take it to a car-wash and spray it off. I then yelled at them and said, "You people obviously don't care about what you did to me. I want you to go out, put this oil cap back on, and I want this engine compartment spotless you little jerks!" They were like, "Yes, sir!"

From then on in, I've always changed my own oil.

When I had my head gaskets done on my '07, I still changed the oil and filter, even though the oil was less than 500 miles old.

At least they did change the filter when they changed the oil.

But... I don't take any chances.
