transmission swap help... compatablilty?

well my stupid rebuilt 4r75e tranny is crapping out on me again, and I really dont want to spend another $2k+ repairing it again. I was thinking i might try and pick up a used 4r75e and swapping it myself.

are all 4r75e's the same? i found one out of an '07 lincoln mark LT at a reasonable price. does anybody know if i can swap without any computer or other issues?

i posted this in the transmisson section as well but figured this forum gets viewed more, and i need a pretty quick answer.

any help would be greatly appreciated!

Buy 4R100, mount it, new driveshaft, buy PCS, disable auto-tranny in tune.

If you really don't need the power and money is that tight, have a tuner kill the torque input into the trans so you can make one last.

ill look into that. im hoping i might have better luck with a different 4r75e than this one. i see s/c guys making more power than me getting more life out of them. id like to get it in there and see what happens, if it goes after a while then, i know that the 4r75 just cant handle it, and then upgrade. but a $750 for this used one with only 7000 miles on it, i figure i dont have anything to lose...

If the Lt trans is for a truck with 4wheel drive, you would have to swap the tail shafts over from your trans but other than that, add a new torque convertor and away you go.

no it says it was for a 2WD, so i know everything will bolt up correctly, i just don know if there are going to be any computer/tuning issues... i dont want to mess with the computer, cos ill have to get the roush tunes put back on and then possibly get it retuned from troyer, so more $$$

If your trans was stock when the tuning was done dont worry about it when you add the other trans. All you should have to do is unbolt the old and bolt in the new one.

Forgot to add: Since the F150 and Lt are the same trucks just different badging, the trans and everything will be the same so unless you have your old one built and the tune was made for that trans you should be just fine with your current tune.

i had troyer adjust some of the shifting characteristics of the 4-2 4-3 downshifts because of a clunking problem i was having, so we'll have to see how that will fit with a new tranny. but everything else is stock so im hoping it will work ok. i was doing some search and i may have to swap some of the electrical components from the old tranny to the new one because of tag or door numbers not matching or something but im not sure yet. maybe someone can chime in on that.

not 100% accurate. the Lincoln has a slightly different tuning in the ECM vs. the regular F-150

I would give it a try anyways though. The tranny is the same between the vehicles...it's just a difference in tuning. So your Roush tunes should be just fine controlling the new tranny

I think im gonna go for it, i just want to make sure i dont mess it up... Id love it just to work after the install, but if i have to get some kind of tune, it wont be the end of he world, itll still be a helluvalot cheaper than getting this POS rebuilt...

Yeah just disconnect the neg battery terminal then re-connect it. That will reset the PCM. Since you said you will possibly be swapping some electronics, you should disconnect the battery anyways to avoid any shorts while working with wires.
