The F-150 STX 5.4L Triton..

A friend of mine is in the market for a truck, so he likes the ford trucks more than dodge and GM. so just before he gets it he has some question.

Does this truck really do well in sand ? because since we are living in UAE and the winter is here, all of our trips are to the dunes.

so the most important thing to him is does it do well in dunes ?

and if it is just tuned. will it beat a stock 5.3L silverado ?

Thanks.

I don't know about the sand dunes, but if he gets a PHP Gryphon Tuner, he might be able to beat a 5.3.

Doing well in sand isnt about the truck...its about the driver. Air down your tires and dont be an idiot, it will drive fine on sand.

Dont jump it though, they arent built for that.

5.4 is not an option for an stx according to ford website. the 4.6 i highly doubt will take a 5.3 chevy, my dad has the 5.4 tuned by PHP and before i raced it was not a close race but haven't had the chance since its been tuned. i think it would be a close race now

in the sand, if at a stock don't punch it that can get you stuck. and stay where its harder packed, if you hit soft packed you can get stuck. i don't drive on the beach often, but thats all i know that can't be helpful.

The STX model only comes in a 4.6 V8 for the 2004-2008 models if my memory serves me correctly. So no, it will not beat a 5.3.

You can get a 5.4 in the XL, XLT, Lariat, FX4 or the King Ranch only when talking about F150's.

Power Hungry Performance is a company that modifies the Edge Evolution tuners so you can get more power out of it. They also write custom tunes that go with your modifications to the truck, cold air intake, long tube header, exhaust. Costs about $450, but it's worth it from what I hear.

roger that...

the 08 booklet for the f150 states that with the special package, a 5.4 is available in the stx along with power windows and locks

off topic, but from my understanding, the roush nightmares also started there life out as an stx with a 5.4

it was available for the 06/07 yr models. the 08's dropped it.

not sure why though. You'd think that the bigger V-8 in the stripped truck would be a popular combo for work trucks

Just like the 09 F150s not coming in a reg cab short bed 4x2 with the 5.4l v8...

I'd love a 97-03 F150 with the reg cab shortbed eiher 4x2 or 4x4 with the 5.4l v8 with the step side...

Bad news. I'm active duty Navy and I know this is late, however coming off 2007 deployment I ordered an F150 STX special edition and I got the 5.4l triton in it so it is quite possible to find this model year and trim with that engine and the numbers will match. I traded it in 2011
