Used F150: 05, 06, 07, 08?

Hello,

I have searched through for similar questions- have not found any, and would appreciate some advice.

I am a US Service member deployed to Iraq- I will be buying a new F150 when I return this spring. I love the new 09's- but I can't see paying that much for a new truck. The price kills me.

My last F150 was a 92 SuperCab, with the inline 6, XL, 5 speed manual. I loved that truck. I had it for 15 years. I also think I have earned an upgrade.

My question to the Group: What years of F150 are the best to look for in a used F150? I can see very little real difference in these years- I am looking for an FX4 or a 4WD XLT/King Ranch. I suppose if there are any 08's left around in April, they will be giving them away, so I won't count out a new one either. I have priced out the 09 FX4, and about the best deal I can get through the military is 33,000. What years between 05-08 should I stay away from?

Thanks

No big changes - slight cosmetic changes is all. All good trucks. Depends on options/condition/price you want to pay.

If I were you I would stay in the late 07's and 08's they redesigned the heads to make the plugs easier to remove. I own an 05 its a great truck but I am terrified of changing my plugs this spring. Good luck on the choice and thanks to you and your fellow soldiers who are serving over there. It is much appreciated.

yea only over 200 changes according to ford. obviously the newer you look at the better chance for low miles. and with the economy this bad, you can probly get an 07-08 pretty cheap

Ditto on the 08 for the head plug change issue as well as the iPod/mp3 input.

If you can't find an '08 that fits your budget, don't be too afraid of going older. I have an '04 ( same bodystyle as '05-'08 ) and it's been fantastic. No problems whatsoever. Not saying everyone's was like that, but it's possible to find a great one.

I would buy the nicest truck at the best price and wouldn't worry about the year model. There are a lot of people who can't afford, don't want due to gas mileage or can't get much for trade in that want to sell their truck. There are some great trucks available at very cheap prices. My 04 has been an excellent truck and anything from the 04 through new are good trucks if they have been treated well.

Just buy based on price and condition.

Leaning more towards the 4.6 vs the 5.4.... probably get an 03'--06' ..

I'm currently in Kabul, Afghanistan so I wanted to say what's up but as a repsonse to your questions the Wife just bought a brand new 08 supercab XLT with all kinds of features like 3.73 gears, tint, bigger gas tank, etc for a walk out of less than $25K and this was only a month ago but now you can find used 08 for like $18K with all kinds of crap on it. Would def go with an 08 since you know a warranty will still be there and it's the last of a gen.

That 92 F150 I6 truck was probably one of the best trucks ever made. I owned a 93 with a 351w and I loved it. Unfortunately that love did not carry over to the new truck. Between the spark plug issues, knocking/ticking, and host of other issues, I think Ford took a few steps back. The one upgrade is not more Twin I Beam suspension, but I'd take my old 93 back anyday. I'm not a fan of the mod motors at all after my experiences. I could have the heads off of a windsor engine in an hour if needed, and not break the bank in repairs.
