07 F150 Cam Phaser problem

Based on all the reading I've done, I thought the cam phaser problems were resolved for the 07's and up... apparantly not all of them. Pulling onto the highway after work last night, pushed down on the gas and no power. Barely limped it to the dealer... extremely rough idle and the engine missing like crazy. They checked it out and a cam phaser went. I never noticed any noise or anything until it just went. I thought these things failed slowly. I am hoping this explains the poor fuel mileage I was getting the last 6 months. It was a consistant 3 MPG decrease city and highway.

sounds like one of those random failures. the cam phasers were effectively fixed by the 06 model yr.

sucks...but it's under warranty right? and if the damage is bad enough, you might have a brand new motor coming. just be patient, Ford will make it right

It is still under warranty and are taking care of it so I am not worried. This dealership has always been excellent to deal with. I sure am glad it failed so close to the dealer and not while towing my camper in the middle of nowhere.
So a failed cam phaser could cause other engine damage? Is there something I should watch / listen for when I get it back?
