Question Broken Antenna

So.... I was trying to unscrew my antenna to replace it with another, when all of a sudden it snapped on me. Not the antenna itself, but the screw that holds it in place. Now i'm at a loss and honestly don't know what to do. I tried to pop off that casing but it won't seem to budge, and i dont want to go breaking anything else..ha.:o

When i look in that hole, it looks like there may be just enough to grab on to (hopefully) so i can get the screw out. But, i just can't seem to figure out how to get to it.

Anyone have any idea of how i can get that screw out, or am i screwed?..

I'd soak it really good with penetrating oil... and then use one of those screw extraction tools. You can get them at any home-improvement store. Basically you drill a small hole in the screw and then the extraction tool has a reverse thread so as you screw it in it unscrews the chunk of screw that broke off.

Thats probably your best bet... it should be cheaper than replacing the mounting block.

Pop the hood and look under the sheet metal. You will find four philips screws securing a plate. You can remove the assembly and replace the antenna holder and antenna.

Just pry between the black cover and the paint. Use something plastic to do it. It will "pop" off. I had to take mine off because it was loose. I tightened the screws and put the cover back on with some silicon.

Ok well i tried the screw extraction tool, no luck with that so i just ordered a new base.

My base unhooks from the orange cable, but when i ordered the part they gave me one that has the cable attached. I called the dealership and was told i have the right and only part for my truck. So i had to take off the plastic trim in the wheel well, at least enough to get behind it. Then i had to take off the glove box in order to get behind it and be able to feed the wire through and hook it up.

It's really very simple to do, but when i fed the wire through, and was about to finish up by putting the base in and screwing it on, i noticed it did not fit!!! (should of checked first i suppose:o)............There is a little metal piece on the base that goes into a grove on the truck, well, the part they gave me has the metal piece on the opposite side, wtf! So i went back there and they told me that the part i got, is the only part in their system for my truck. So now it seems i'm screwed, i had taken it all apart for nothing. I'm really at a loss right now and the darn dealership is not helping me at all. I even called Ford Motor Company and they were no help, they just told me to go to the dealership. Ughhhh, something so simple is turning into a nightmare.

Ok i'm all set, my persitence paid off. I made it clear that i need the same exact part and that there is no excuse for not being able to get it for me, made them get off their a$$ and actually work. I was nice about it though, because i feel that being a jerk to them will not benefit me in any way.

So, it went pretty quick since i took everything apart yesterday and knew exactly what i needed to do. Rewired and installed the new base, along with putting on my new black 12" antenna, and i'm good to go.

An extremely simple job turned into a huge project, but such is life sometimes, glad it's over though...

Yeah i went to Autofair for the part (base assembly).
I do remember what you told me about that place, and how you had an absolute horrible experience. But they are so close to where i live, and considering i was doing the work myself i figured just buying a part from them would be simple enough, obviously not though.... damn clowns....
