P2004-P2006 Codes

I just picked up the parts to fix my 05 5.4. Just over $100.00 As per Ford parts, there is just the actuator that set behind the intake manifold. The manifold has to come off to be able to get get to the actuator, so you will need new manifold gaskets. These were available from ford at 30.00 each side. The actuator is a motorized device that opens valves on the manifold that allows air into the system. Ford called these pieces on the manifold "valves" and that they are a part of the manifold, and are not removable. I haven't change it yet, I plan on doing it Thursday. I was able to get my arm around the fire wall and feel the actuator, and it moves freely, but the new one doesn't move. Seems like the old one has a stripped gear. I will let you all know as soon as I am done with it. I have a picture of the back of the manifold, but not sure how to get it on here.

Did fine

I finished installing the runner control actuator. It wasn't really that tough. Pulling the manifold didn't take to long as well. Under 3 hours. In my case, the new part is backwards from the original, but I installed it following the instructions that came with it. Works fine. I only put about 100 miles on it but no light came on. Thank you bast0325 for the picture.

Imrc

Hi all. The part number from Ford for the runner control is
3L3Z-9B742-A. The cost in 01/09 was $49.44. The intake gaskets however were 30.06 ea. 3L3Z-9439-EA and 3L3Z-9439-DA. Specialty of course. Mine didn't come with new clips, so be careful removing the old one. On the fuel line, you will need a special tool to disconnect the fuel line. What I did was take a spray paint cap, cut a strip just long enough to fit inside the connector. It held the spring out perfectly, and it came right off. The rest was pretty simple. Good luck.

P2004 code '04 f-150

Code P2004 came up on newly replaced 5.4 engine...engine sputtered when idling, got misfire cylinder 3 code, air/fuel mixture to rich code, and intake manifold runner control open bank 1 (drivers side) code too. Made appt. to have warranty work done......the night before(last night) it sputtered like crazy and lost all power. AAA towed it to shop and passers by kept calling me today saying that white smoke was billowing out of the bay doors. Upon closer inspection, they noticed that it was my Beast, hence all the phone calls. To get back to question at hand...I'm thinking cracked manifold leaking coolant into cylinders, head gasket, or(as one of my passers by said), maybe burned converter!? I'm leaning towards cracked manifold, because of runner control code.#2 is head gasket, #3 would be converter(didn't smell like rotten eggs though). Know more in am....keep you posted

To find that actuator, you have to either remove the cab, or the intake itself, it is located on the lower part of the backside of the intake. Now, remember, to remove ALL of the wires and hoses, or you can damage them, which is a pain in the butt to deal with! It is not hard to find, once you remove the intake, it sticks out like a sour thumb, once you turn the intake around, but it is kinda hidden, down in the valley of the block/heads.

Just a heads up that you answered a question from 8 years ago...
