Possible severe issue, ideas?
Possible severe issue, ideas?
Ok, so I was driving home from work tonight and was making my last turn to my street. Truck ran fine the whole way home then the last street (1/2 mile long max) the whole trucks just starts shaking. And bad shaking not like a shimmy, I was having to slightly fight it to keep the trucks straight, with hands on the steering wheel it caused my whole body to shake from the truck shaking. Check the gauge cluster, no CEL or other lights, and all gauges normal. I just had the tires rotated so I thought it was a loose wheel, so I stopped short of my driveway, but it was still shaking and sounded like it was trying to die. So I started up my driveway (on a incline) and it didnt sound right (straight pipe so I can tell the exhaust sounded different) and it seemed to almost limp up the drive way. Turned it off, grabbed my dad, turned it back on and it runs fine. Checked everything, all fluids are good, no hoses loose or off no nothing.
WTF???? Any ideas or things I should check? I know its running fine now, but scared, ya know?
Help please, its only a 07 (13 months old) with not even 13K on the ticker.

Lots of old threads on the topic, but what you describe with the engine kinda throws a wrench in the vibe/shake issue. I had both a 2004 and 2006 that had the problem. I attributed it to the parking brake, especially on my old 2004. Shook so much the wipers literally were bouncing off the windshield. I would search previous threads, I know mine was due to the parking brake, and especially if I forgot to disengage it right away and backed up. Good luck.

I have a 2004 and mine did the exact same thing. It was the parking brake on the driver's side. It was loose enough to get the brake light to turn off on the dash, but just tight enough to cause friction and heat up. i thought i had a wheel falling off at first, too. completely freaked me out too.
What causes a misfire ? Its when there is no spark in one cylinder (or more). Cause ? Spark plug doesn't fire. Could be millions of reasons why. Don't these trucks throw a CEL if it detects a mis-fire though ??? So, if he doesn't have a CEL, it most likely wasn't a miss. Its damn near imposible to diagnos "noise" complaints over an online forum. We are all simply guessing.
Do you have custom tunes at all ? Did you just fill up ? Use some crap gas by chance ? Would it shake violenty when in Park ? idling ? Or only when moving ? Did it feel like it was "on one side" or feel like it was the engine ? All gears ? Did you rev it up ? Did you floor it ? Did you rev it while parked at all ? Would it get rough under harder acceleration ? Or during high revving ? Did the shaking begin during the turn ?
If the problem has "fixed" itself, or gone away, with no CEL, and no other warning lights, there is probably little anyone can do for you, unless you can get the truck to do it again. If you find out what makes it start, then maybe. Until then, i would continue to drive it normally.

Mine did this same exact thing the other day. Ran fine until I got off the highway. Then it ran really rough. Shut it off whe I got to work and tried to restart it and it was flooded. I'm guessing it was a stuck injector. It did this the next morning on the ride home. I was getting ready to take it to the dealership and it stopped. Has been running fine ever sinse. I've had an issue with starting it after a short trip to the store. Get out and it acted like it was flooded. Couldn't ever duplicate it for the dealership. Mine is an 06 with the 5.4 built in September of 05. I know earlier trucks had an injector problem, not sure which years though. No check engine light. Hopefully it'll throw a light before my warranty runs out. Not sure if this helps. haha Not sure what causes it. My thoughts were having to do with the injectors. Maybe Quinton has seen this before.
Mine just did this the other day too. I just left my house and was the first stop light 1/2 mile away when it started trying to stall and truck was shacking a little too, but no where near as bad as the OP described. When the light changed I gave it some gas and it continued to run rough through the light. My first though was I have an injector that's messing up on me. So I got in the middle turn lane and was going to make a U-turn so I could park the truck and take my car instead, when all the sudden it cleared up. I haven't had a problem since, but I do plan on paying my dealer a visit later this week to see if they can see what happened.
I wonder if you have an injector that is intermittently sticking will they be able to find it if it's not doing it when they are trying to diagnose it?

If they can't duplicate the problem, then they are guessing, just like us. They may have a far better guess, something they see a lot, but they still couldn't guarentee they could fix it 100% .
If there is no lights on, no lights ever came on, and the truck runs fine right now, most likely going to be a waste of time and money to bring it to the dealer. Just

If ya got a buddy with a scope, throw it on there to see. Should have a good normal pattern.

Your quessing is more helpful than you know, since I dont even know where to start thinking! haha
To answer your questions, no custom tune nor tuner installed, just got about 8 gallons of gas at QT 3 nights ago, when in park it would still shake but not as bad same as idling, the whole truck was shaking so I could not tell if one side or another, it would get lsightly worse the faster I went so yes all gears, I reved it and it shaked slightly more but not as much as when moving same as in park, I had just finished racing a tahoe that was bein a smart ***, and nothing wrong till after, shaking began after the turn once I started going staright agian.
Hope that answers those.
