hmmmmmm...... now you have really stumped me to be honest. If I were to *guess* I would say something in the trans. But again, if ti "went away" on its own, with no lights thrown, and isn't happening now, I wouldn't worry too much, just maybe keep an eye out, and ears open for it (to see if it happens again). Honestly, I would know far more if it were a Mercedes. Being a Ford, I have only had ONE triton motor, and thats my current one, with only 55K on the ticker. This would be something more for Quintin or maybe even Matt's Ford could answer. Someone who works at the dealership may see this problem far more then me. Also, I do not know the "ins and outs" of these motors. Lastly, the Ford Dealership next door has closed shop and gone home (for good) so, I can't BS with them to get answers any more ! Sorry man, but its something I personally, wouldn't worry unless it happens again.

Wow... mine did the same thing the other day... I was doing about 35 mph and manually put it into second...magnaflow sounds so good... then started missing badly. Start stop... start stop... still did it. Then I downshifted again for the heck of it.... CLEARED UP.. ran fine. Got me spooked now. It seemed to be an obvious miss. no codes on the edge. Temps didn't go up...just shook like crazy. And no power. I am almost wondering if a solinoid in the transmission didn't operate properly and I had two gears worth of clutches engaged?

I appreciate your input Mercedes. This is my first Triton also. My last truck had the 4.2 V6, so the 5.4 is a whole different beast for me also. And mine only has 13K on it so its still new to me.
I hope its not the trans, cuz my last truck had a trans issue in the first year. Granted Ford fixed it with no issue and fast and it was fine after that, but still.

So far its good, have not had the issue again. But it seems like the truck is kinda sluggish, once I have time im gonna recheck everything again. Put in a new fuel filter and all that, just check it all over. But other than that im just gonna hope it was just a freak problem and that was it.

Thanks again everyone.

Check the gauge cluster, no CEL or other lights, and all gauges normal. I just had the tires rotated so I thought it was a loose wheel, so I stopped short of my driveway, but it was still shaking and sounded like it was trying to die. So I started up my driveway (on a incline) and it didnt sound right (straight pipe so I can tell the exhaust sounded different) and it seemed to almost limp up the drive way. Turned it off, grabbed my dad, turned it back on and it runs fine. Checked everything, all fluids are good, no hoses loose or off no nothing.

WTF???? Any ideas or things I should check? I know its running fine now, but scared, ya know?
Help please, its only a 07 (13 months old) with not even 13K on the ticker.

Did you over heat a front Brake Rotor??

It's difinately in the engine. If it's lke mine was it's flooding the engine. It wouldn't be the transmission if it's doing it standing still, truck in park.

If they can't duplicate the problem, then they are guessing, just like us. They may have a far better guess, something they see a lot, but they still couldn't guarentee they could fix it 100% .
I'm thinking your right, and no ses light when this happened. I just hate for this to cause me a bigger problem later. With some of these threads I read of others with hydrolocked engines and burned up cats... Ford should just do a recall.
I want ahead and gave my dealer a call just to see what they would have to say. I still may be wasting my time but I figure it's at least on file if I have a bigger problem later.

They said the will do a Power/Load Balance. What all does this test?

power/load balance test.

Most likely they are going to throw it on a Dyno and balance test the cylinders. See how each cylinder is performing (in a nut shell). Its common. They will try and duplicate what your complaint is, but they will try to do it in a controlled manner, so they can see whats going on. Again, this is going to be a waste of money. Millions of things could of happened. Maybe a little particle of dirt got past the fuel filter, and came into the injector. Perhaps it got it to stick open, giving you that shake and rough running engine. Then the particle passed through, and problem solved. If they can't duplicate the problem, there is nothing they can do. how much are they going to charge for the "power/load balance" ??

They shouldn't be charging me anything. I have a extended warranty through Ford, Premium care. Thanks for the info

I had the exact same 'symptom' as a few of you. It ended up being an injector that was sticking, then would clear up. No codes logged, just an unreliable truck because it would run fine when I took it in. I had driven it to the dealer the 3rd time when it happened and it still did it for the tech. However I ended up with what sounded like a ticking in the motor when I got it back. May have caused it by me driving it for 12 miles to dealer ( just barely made it ). I had a total of 3 bad injectors on the 06.
