Got a question for the Mag-Hytech DD trans pan owners

Is the filter Mag-Hytec sells for this pan the same as the stock filter? I ordered a filter from Performance Products for mine and just received it yesterday. Looking at it it looks the same as I can remember from my last tranny service. Looking on Mag-Hytec's site their standard D pan is the only one that actually looks. It doesn't appear to have move if any of a pick up tube... where the DD which I'm looking at is only 1 inch long at most. I'm pretty sure my oem one is same but I wanna check first before I drop it.

The reason I want to know this is because the filter Performance Products sent me is completely covered in rust. If it is the same as the oem filter I'll just get one of those and send this POS back to them. I am very surprised they even sent me this. The filter wasn't in a bag or a box (filter box). They just through this thing in a box with packing material and shipped it to me.

They are not getting anymore money from me

One more question. Would it hurt anything if I put the pan magnet from my oem pan in this pan. I know it's aluminum and it won't stick to it but nether did the yellow plastic dip stick plug either.

What I see as a down side to going to this pan is the magnet size is reduced to a magnet the size of the bolt to drain the fluid. I know from dropping my pan a 31K the magnet was pretty much full of crap.

VV This is why I don't think the Mag-Hytech magnet is going to be sufficient

I got the answer to my first question from Mag-Hytec today. They did confirm that the DD pan uses the exact same transmission filter the the oem pan takes for my truck.

Still would like to get some opinions on the second question about reusing the magnet with this pan.

Sorry about that. I fixed my post and I think it make since now :o I was trying to confirm if the filter is the same or does their pan require a filter with a lower pick up tube. They confirmed that even with using their DD pan you still use the same OEM filter.

I'm confused here, are you asking if you could throw the old drain plug magnet in the pan ? And have it floating around in there ???

And yes, you use the oem filter. You don't need the pick-up on the bottom (like a lot of people think, asking for extensions). Its a sealed unit, it just needs to be able to get the fluid.

Yes, is this any different than the dip stick plug that floats in there until the first service. It's a least heavier and I'm thinking it would stay at the bottom even though the pan isn't magnetic. I'm just thinking about it and asking to see what the harm in doing this. Thanks

I guess you could. I really think its overkill and not needed. Plus, if the magnet starts getting tossed around, its gunna lose anything it collected.

Also know, that the transmission in todays vehicles don't even come with a magnetic drain plug. I don't really think its needed. All I run is what the Mag-Hytech came with, and have had no problems. Personally, I wouldn't worry about it. Proper maintenance and taking care of it would go a lot farther then the extra plug. Maybe you can drain the trans pan during every oil change. Fill it back up afterwards. your only getting about 1/3 of the fluid held in the entire trans, but it would help 'freshin' up the fluid. (make sense ?)

Ok thanks. I didn't think about the possibility of stuff coming off the magnet if and when it does shift around in the pan. I'll just install it as it was designed and leave the magnet out.

I am curios to see how the magnet looks this time when I drop the oem pan to replace it with this one. I wonder if a lot of the stuff on the magnet the first time around was just from breaking in. I'm also gonna order a shift kit so I can install it at the same time.

I just installed the Mag-Hytec rear axle cover today and filled it with some RP
