There's a mod to put an auto lock in your tailgate. Ties in with the doors locks. I did on mine and its one of the best mods that can be done on our trucks.

I pulled a buddies car for him and he forgot to relock the hitch when he loaded it. Trailer put a huge dent in the back of the tailgate.

I found and exact color match on Craigs list for ~$200. You can find them there and ebay. May take a week or two but you'll find a good deal.

Since Flaresides are rare to come by I don't think I have to worry about mine disappearing. But after reading this, I went out and locked mine.

Thanks, looks like the best thing for me to do is buy one and have it repainted. Will ahve to buy the cables from the dealer. Wonder if i can get the lock re-keyed?

I called on the Orange County Craigslist and am going to pick it up tomorrow.
Will drop it off at a paint shop around the corner on Sat.

How does this work exactly? And how do you end up unlocking it if the ties lock it in? Im confused but interested.

On the right side of the tailgate the hinge or pivot point is slotted so you can remove the tailgate. The heavy duty zip ties goes around that pivot and prevents someone from just lifting out your gate. You have to cut off the zip ties before you can remove the gate. A theifs biggest enemy is time, if he has to spend an extra minute or two trying to get your gate, chances are he will move on and try the next truck he finds. The tailgate still operates as normal, you just can't remove it without removing the zip tie first. You can also use a hose clamp in place of the zip tie.

I've got Stainless Steel hose clamps waiting in the bull pen, that will be the first thing I install after getting the tailgate back from paint.
Second will be buying a new lock since my key won't work in the one I'm picking up after work today.
