Ripped off
It was this guy!!!! https://www.f150online.com/forums/20...-tailgate.html
thanks 05RedFX4 for the info, may need to try that.
The ad on O.C. Craigslist (on my previous post) states "no dents" , I also called the guy and he told me the same. So I take 1/2 hour off from work to go buy it, Immeadieatly I see a big ding type dent on it, as well as a "ripple" type dent in another area, and the protective plastic piece on top has 2 (rusty) screws holding it on. I went to his work (a small shop tye place) and never did see him. I have no idea where he was, needless to say i left without it.

I am local in So Cal and remember somebody recently selling one on Craigslist. Check Inland Empire, LA and Orange County. Search for tailgate. I will see if I can find it again.
Good Luck

I have been checking salvage yards and Craigslist and there are no Tailgates available. Found a Company on e-bay that sells them complete including any color you want. Gave them my color code and ordered it this morning, total cost $ 625.00 including shipping.
Should have it within a couple of weeks.

That's not an offshore aftermarket is it Anaheim? That seems awfully cheap for an original with all hardware and painted. I spent an awful long time in auto body and remember when the 1st pacific rim parts came here they fit like they belonged on a '37 Tereplane. Some pretty decent parts now but the E-coat and zinc primer don't ever match original.

Once you get that replacement tailgate, click the picture in my signature and read up on a couple of simple mods you should consider.
Mods->Functional->Tie-Wrap Your Tailgate For Safety
Do this one right away, it probably would have saved your tailgate. Then, read up on this one:
Mods->Functional->Power Tailgate Lock
A relatively easy modification, which requires only a lock actuator and stuff you most likely have laying around. Be sure you hit the "Mod Notes" button at the bottom. The website has all but the simplest mods organized as an intro, and the Mod Notes button takes you to the "how to" section.
Sorry about your tailgate. Don't let bad luck strike twice.

damn, them tailgates expensive. why thieves rip off radios when they can just yank them tailgates off i will never know. on a side not, messing with the tailgate doesnt set off any aftermarket alarm, atleast not my clifford matrix.
There have been tailgate thefts in our area too. I ALWAYS keep mine locked, and will be adding some zip ties this week just to be safe! (Thanks for the write up Myst!)
According to the local paper, pickup tailgates have become targets for the slimballs who steal scrap metal. They have value as a tailgate, but they also have value as scrap.
What is happening to this country!?! Stealing scrap metal...................

What I meant was manufactured offshore. I looked at their site and they don't say anything about their products. It will almost certainly be pacific rim- that's where all the aftermarket parts come from- Tiawan or China. Like I said, when they started making knock- off parts they were virtually unusable but now make some pretty nice parts- a lot of them don't equal OEM but they are used in the industry a lot now because the insurance companies demand it. Your front end parts from when you had the accident could be from there but probably not because the truck was new enough that they might not have been making them for it yet then.
