Exclamation Chrome Shift Handle Cap breaks off on Automatic console shifters

Has anyone had trouble with the ****er cap coming off?

Mine has broken 3 times in 3 years.

Each time I am forced to buy the whole shift handle assembly because I cannot find the chrome cap on the top sold seperately.

Does any company make a billet peplacement or something?

OR

Does any aftermarket co make a better shift handle that will not break off?

It's sad that they make something like that out of cheap plastic.

I think someone found a way to fix it... do a search, you'll find it.

Is the only solution to fixing the scratched up "chrome" shifter trim to buy the entire shifter assembly? The scratches detract from the clean appearance inside my truck imo, and I'd really like to fix them, not too sure about buying the entire assembly just for that though!

What are y'all doing to your shifters? I haven't had any problems with mine in four years, and I don't think I've seen any otherwise.

If its loose just pop it off, you might break the small tab off but its okay cause your just going to glue it back on. Now use 60 second two part epoxy thats how i put the cap on when i did the LT shifter swap. I dont think it will ever come off again, ill have to dremel it off

mine is loose and but hasn't broken yet, but i have a wiggle between the hand grip and the base. taking bets now as to which part breaks first.

How the heck do you guys break the chrome cap on the shifter? I've had my truck for a year and a half and I've never had the need to touch the top of the shifter

thats what i thought. but sure enough if my sister gets her hands on it, it breaks! i have only known two people, one of them being my sister, to break them off. the other drives his truck hard, and plays harder so im not suprised he did either. if you decide to switch out your shift assembly, the 08 they changed a little bit on the grip if it will mount

About a year ago it happened to me. Dealer replaced my whole shifter under warranty. Kinda wasteful if you ask me, but whatever. If it breaks out of warranty its super glue time.

yep, mine broke off also. just smooth off the remaining little plastic tabs, and use the jb weld in the center of cap and a little around the edges.

They probably replaced your shifter before they had handles available for replacement. I have replaced my fair share of these in customers trucks. I put a Harley one in mine to match the black leather. But yes if out of warranty i would epoxy it on!
