Broke a Headlight Friday Night

I finally decided to do that damn "Paint Your Headlights Black" Mod.

I got the casing seperated, did alot of taping and careful sanding

...and then it happened

I was hanging the reflective part up to paint and the string broke. Reflective part fell roughly 3 ft and broke into 3 peices. Luckily most of it stayed in 1 whole peice and only 2 smaller sections seperated.

While I was cussing, my wife came up and told me it was time. What time? Time to go to the Hospital she said. Headlight was promptly forgotten.

Here are my little presents that arrived at 0352 this morning. Identical twin girls. They're in the NICU for the night, but I get them back tomorrow...I hope. Both are healthy, but a little bit early, so the Docs said it's better safe than sorry.

After all the fun, I just got home about an hour ago and noticed that damn headlight sitting on the garage floor. I've been up 40+ hours by now and I ain't thinking straight. So I dug out the bottle of crazy glue and went to work.

Whats the worst that can happen if I super glue it? It either works or it doesn't. This is exactly the sort of thing I was worried about before starting this mod. But the initial look is pretty awesome. It should look pretty awesome when I can get back to it in a few days.

teaser pic of the reflective part after glueing and flat black paint.

later guys...I'm gonna go crash and I think I'm gonna be out for a few days if these kids are anything like the 1st kid.

Sounds like a wild story. Congrats on the little ones!!!

IMO i'd buy new headlights. You are going to get condensation otherwise. Most that attempt that mod get the water in the headlights, and since yours broke you are almost guaranteed to get it.

Congrats on the twin girls, you are a lucky Dad.

When I paint something I hang it up with wire. I cut of the end of some old 12 gauge romex and split out the wires. Then just make a hook on both ends. Works great and won't break.

Congrats on the twins. Have fun. I'd say get some sleep, but you wont.

Hope they get out of the NICU soon, that gets old fast.

no comment

thanks everyone. babies and momma are still at the Hospital and I'm at home with the oldest kid.

I think I'll try the drivers headlight now. got nothing else to do tonight...for a change. and I'll be extra sure the reflective part is secured better than the right light was.

btw, I would put up pics of the passenger headlight. but both of my good cameras are at the hospital. only have the crappy 5.1 camera around here somewhere.
