Beating the dead tonneau horse again

Ok, I am in the market for a tonneau for my 05 XLT. Got a little money from my Iraq summer vacation. I have read so many threads I think I have confused myself. I am looking for something to keep water out, keep people from swiping my chains and tie downs, and reduce drag. My last truck I had a Lund seal n peel and it worked fine. I want to be able to access my full bed. Current covers I am looking at are

Bak Flip G2 (secure but pricey)
Extang RT (locks but soft, good price)
Lund Trifold
Lund Seal n Peel (best price)

Thoughts guys. Beat this horse again then look into the exhaust and leveling.

I recommend the Access Vanish.
It's not water proof, but extremely water repellent.
It's low profile and looks great!

I have the Lund Tri-Fold. Goes on easy, only 4 clamps. Water has yet to be a problem (even during our recent wind/rain storm caused by Ike). You can fold it back and clip it so you have 2/3 of the bed open, or clip it and take it off. It's that easy! Lund has a limited lifetime warranty on the frame and the top (for whatever that's worth). I liked the fact that I could fold it then take it off instead of taking it off in one piece like some of the hinged ones do. My $.02

Good luck in your decision. Thank you for you service in Iraq from an Army vet.

Mine was made by Ranch Fiberglass Its the Legacy Model... I love the look of it.

Not sure of what the price is, it came with it when I bought the truck... here is the website if you want to look into it.

I have the first generation Bakflip and am quite happy with it so far. Not sure how much the current one is going for....paid around $400 for mine through stylin' concepts, but got free shipping. Have had it installed for over a year and no major complaints...had some weather stripping that the glue didn't hold real well on....but a few dabs of gorilla glue solved that.

I guess I am debating if the security of the hard conver is worth doubling the price. 700ish all said and done for the bak flip and 350 and down for the others.

As far as I'm concerned, people can "pop a lock" just about as easily as they can cut through a cover.

With my Access Vanish, even though it's a soft top, you can't get in without either opening the tailgate or cutting the cover. It fits too snug to "reach in" the sides even though they're just velcro'd down.

Besides, stuff like this is just to keep honest people honest... if a thief wants in, he'll get in.

I have no experience with any other covers, but I am very happy with the access cover.

I also have the Bak Flip G2 and just love it. They are pricey but IMO worth it. I've never seen any water in it and it gets used. I mean I open and close it all the time whether it's for hauling some firewood or opening it fully to carry my quad. It still looks new and functions A-1. Now if your the type that's going to just slam it open and close then I wouldn't recommend it and by that I mean the seals in between each panel will actually move so the panels don't stay completely square unless you "handle with care". My .02

I bought my BakFlip G2 about 2 months ago from an eBay store for 599.00 w/ free shipping. It was hard to swallow at first but two months later, I cannot believe I didn't do it sooner! I love the looks, and fit & finish is remarkable. I keep a big, plastic locking tub w/ my gear, ball hitch, rope, etc in the back now and feel things are pretty secure. BTW, It was a little unwieldy installing it by myself, but even so, it only took about 25 mins.

Some years back, I had a Nissan mini-pickup w/ a softcover and lowlifes sliced it twice on two seperate occasions...not for theft, but for the pure joy of cutting through the cover. I duct taped it but swore it was the last time I bought a soft cover.

Good luck w/ your choice.
