Would anybody buy DIY Black Headlights?

I am about to buy some OEM blacked out headlights (FX2/FX4/HD style) sometime this week coming up.

And since my shiny stockers are pretty much worthless, I figure I'll try painting them. If it turns out well, is there any market on here for them?

The reason I'm wanting to buy the OEM pre-painted is that I'm hesitant to do this without replacements on hand. Just in case I FUBAR the stockers, I'd have replacement lights right away.

Or I guess I could just buy a single one off eBay and experiment...

any thoughts? I like the thought of a DIY painting so I could recoup some of the cost.

You can always buy new ones and paint the stockers. If the stocks come out better than expected, sell the new ones for close to what you paid for them, if not the same. You have nothing to lose if you're already gonna buy them. Either way, good luck. Sounds like a pain to get them apart. I would end up smashing them with a hammer to get them open

I can be patient if the ends justify the means...and I like challenges. But the DIY painting can be a very expensive mistake.

Tylus : go for the DIY is actually very easy.

hardest part was prying those sob's open other than its just painting.

only $10

Pm me if you are interested

Its always worth a try. If you paint them but find the HD ones are more prefered for you i'm certain you could sell the painted ones. Someday i'll be in the market for black headlamps.

buy the HD or FX2's, then you don't have to worry about leaks or going through the hassle of taking apart stock lights and painting. Keep your stockers. If you sell your truck in a few years, then put the stock lights back on and resell the HD/FX2's to recoup some of the cost.

Used HD/FX2's would be more desirable than DIY black stockers to a potential buyer...

I always keep my stock parts and resell the aftermarket parts when I sell the vehicle. I've done this a few times already and each time it works out pretty good.

hate to jack this guys thread, but from I've seen around here people have just been getting their bumpers powdercoated no problem.. if you didn't mind doing the rest of the work you could black the everything out for around $500 - $600 dollars.

Powdercoat bumpers - $250
Powdercoat wheels - $250
oven-bake headlights - $10
Nightshade tails - $15
exhaust tip paint - $5
emblem paint - $5
decals from patriotdecals.com - $40

I'm sure prices would vary on powdercoating, but that seems about right.. just do it! lol
