Drivers side window problem, need a tip on removing the motor..

I have the door panel removed and can see that the cable is all bound up, motor works fine though. I can't figure out how to remove the power window motor though. I removed one bolt but it's still riveted to the long silver shaft that goes top to bottom in the door. How do I get this thing out to replace it? Is it fixable? Thanks..

And yes I searched.

You need to remove the entire window regulator as a complete assembly. And no you cannot fix this broken unit. You will need to purchase an entirely new window regulator which comes completely assembled and ready to install.

This is a design flaw with the cable system in these regulators.

You don't have to pull the window out to change the window regulator assembly. It's really easy to change. Hardest part is getting the door panel back on.

You don't? Can you give me some details then? the instruction on the link I posted above claim you do.... Less work is better. Keep in mind the motor seems to work fine the cable is just all bound up.

Duct tape is your friend. Forgive my quick description. :o

I think there are 5 bolts (can't remember, been a year) holding the reg assy to the door. There are two fasteners holding the window clamps to the reg assy. You take off the door panel, move the window to see where the clamp fasteners are and loosen them. Disconnect the window and move it all the way up and tape the window in the up position. Remove the rest of the bolts and take out the reg assy. The rest is in reverse order, just make sure to check the window function, you may have to adjust the window clamp bolts to get it just right.

If my instructions don't work so well, yell at Ford.

you can save the working motor off the busted one for a rainy day, but on the 04+ seems like the regulators go out way before the motors do

Use blue painters tape instead of duct tape though. Less mess to clean up

True, I used what seemed like 100 year old duct tape and it left goo, but new duct tape isn't gooey like that. Painter's tape would be best.

I can't remember the exact thread, but I wrote a whole post on how to do it. The window can stay in just tape it all the way up with painters tape
