4x4 issue-IWE Josiah help please
2006, 4.6, 4x4.
Front hubs making that ratcheting metallic noise, engage 4x4 noise stops.
Replaced IWE this morning. Heard a hiss of air when I pulled the lines off. Put on new IWE and same issue.
Checked the fuse, looks like the A/C clutch and IWE are on the same fuse(Fuse 11) it checked out.
Now from here I know another piece of the IWE is on the front hubs, I was thinking I would not have to get that far into it.
What is my next step?
Test the IWE I just replaced? Draw a vac on the lines going to the front hubs? Take apart the hubs?

see if the vacuum lines hold pressure. The way to isolate which IWE it is, you have to put pressure to each vacuum line, crimp it until you shove a pencil in the line to hold the air pressure. That will unlock the hubs, if there is no pressure they lock.
Also, have someone turn the key on and off and sit by the solenoid (mounted on upper pass. side firewall). You will hear it engage and disengage if it's working.

Could you go into more detail on the pencil technique? So I start the truck then crimp the line then shove a pencil in it? I am going now to make sure I can hear the IWE. Thanks!
Ok went outside and listened for the IWe noise, it is very faint but I heard it. Would disconnecting the hoses then turning it on make the noise more noticable? I am 80% sure I heard it, but like I say it was faint. The ignition noise/click was much louder and more pronounced.
