3rd brake light leak question

For those who have purchased a new one from either the dealership or some online site like Tasca, does the new one include the new weather strip with it or are you supposed to use the old one?

If you just have the standard run-of-the-mill brake light leak, you don't necessarily have to purchase a new light. When my '04 leaked, I just went and bought some round rubber weatherstripping from Home Depot, and installed it where the factor weatherstrip was (I removed the factory one). It worked like a charm, and never leaked again... Just a way to save a few dollars.

silicone

My light was leaking a couple weeks ago and I just pulled the light out looked for where the water was running past the factory seal, put some silicone along the edge of the seal and put the light back in. Doesn't leak anymore and didnt cost anything. And you cant see the silicone once the light is back in so thats a bonus.

Yeah, silicone is the way to go. I took off my light to install XM, and just used silicone when putting it back on. Leak-free for almost 3 years now!
