I have an '05 FX4...about 2 years ago i had some 4x4 issues...something happened when i was using it...got the "wrench" icon on my dash...took it in replaced something with the 4low....

wel yesterday i was using it...had it in 4H....when to change it to 4L...i stoped went to N...changed it...as i was driving...i heard a loud clunk...well the "wrench" icon appeared again....

what is the deal...why is my 4x4 not very reiable...i havent taken it in to have it checked..but this is rediculous...anyone else having any issues ...or does anyone know what might be my problem...i appreciate it...

I had a problem similar to yours: I tried engaging my 4x4, and nothing happened. I turned the wheels over from side to side while I was moving, and the tires didn't have any resistance...it was like it was free wheeling.

I was going start checking the fuses, to start with, and I checked the transfer case, to see if anything was loose, but I got sidetracked.

A day later, my 4x4 engaged after I flipped the switch. Hi and low.

The only thing I didn't have happen was the little wrench icon that comes on in your case.

Weird.

Take it back to the dealership. If it's under warranty, keep having them fixing their defective transfer case.
