I dont know if it will rattle, but I'm sure it wont fit as tight without the inserts. I actually spray bedliners at work, and I always go back after I get done and put the inserts back in. I use a cone dril bit to get it just right so the insert fits. Most to the time you cant tell you had to drill it because the inserts cover the drilled part up. I know the linex liners are a little thinner then the ones I spray(Reflex) so it wont be too hard to get the inserts to fit.

You don't really need the inserts, but they do help. I almost went without them instead of cutting my Bedrug. The inserts give it a better fit when you pin it closed or open. The pins secure the extender firmly in it's extended and closed position.

Either way, it would be real easy for you to try it without the four inserts for a while, and add them later if you have a reason not to like it that way. It's also possible that the sprayed liner will give the pins a snug fit.

The extender is 57 3/4 on the end, but it gets narrower near the top of the bed. I would call it 57 1/4 at the top of the bed where I think you need to clear the tonneau.

It's a good idea to purchase an extra black post for the extender, that you can bolt on near the end so that it cannot be removed in the closed position. Otherwise they are easy to unclip when the tailgate is locked.

Honestly these bed extenders are cheap. The pushpin/slides that lock the extender down broke fooling around offroad, popped the little plastic inserts out. Bums me out considering what I spent on it to add it in.

Fooling around? Dude, I've seen the video of your fooling around! That may be the best pull I've ever seen. It may be the best f150 pull of all time. Did you really expect that little tin extender would stand up to your level of fooling around?

haha, well thanks! I had a few really loud cheer inducing pulls at pismo I wish I had some evidence of!

To contribute, the 4 holes you need come on every truck, the 2 center holes are what you mount the swivel bolts in, and the top holes are for the slide pins to slide into and lock.

I learned a few things just watching you pull, and now I understand why you were so confident you could pull him out after the others did nothing more than bury him deeper. I really should make some comments in that thread. I'm wondering what you said to him after you hooked up those straps.

Ford parts department has them. I had the part number for the 97-03s, but I'm not sure if they are the same 04+. I don't know about ordering the four plastic inserts?

Maybe they stopped selling them to thwart the business of stealing extenders and selling them on eBay. :o It was a big business when they first came out. I bought the hardware myself for an 01 back in 04. The part number is posted here somewhere.

These are the part numbers I purchased from Ford back in 2003 for a 2001 truck. The mounts for the box sides were W707381 S900. They look the same to me, and screw in real nice if you use a 3/8-16 tap lightly first. The bracket looked the same also. The dealership included my extender with the sale, and threw in the brackets after I popped an extender out of a truck on their showroom floor without opening the tail gate, so I didn't order anything this time.
