Ford 5.4 / Chevy 5.3
Chevy goes for absolute power but don't give a crap about interior design, or exterior design. If you need the absolute most power, go with Chevy. If you want slightly lower power and a lot better looking truck, go with Ford.
maybe its just me having bad luck against chevys, but every one i have raced has completely surprised me. my brother in law drove a stock 5.3 04 reg cab long bed with a topper. i raced him from a stop and at 60 or so i only had him by a truck length. granted this was before i added 4.10's, custom tune and worked out other bugs, but still...
and just a few weeks ago i ran a new body style silverado at a light up to about 70 and his nose was just at my tail lights! it looked and sounded stock, and i dont remember seeing MAX on the side so i dont think it was the 6.0. it could have a 3/4 ton but who knows. all i know is i was surprised as hell.
and i know its not that my truck is slow because i just spanked the hell out of a r/t charger the other day...

GMC = faster
FORD = more capable / reliable.
My personal experience. I had them both for around the same length of time. (2 yrs)
04 Sierra = Fast, sweet burn outs and donuts. Left me stranded with a bad coil and had the front end replaced within the first year of owning.(very light offroading, before I bagged it) When I would put it in 1 it would still shift into 2nd (AT). The interior pieces rattled bad with subs. Very cheap interior. Tranny was slipping when I traded it in on my F150 (fluid was good). The spare tire crank crapped out on me on the side of the road. (couldn't get my spare out = stranded again) There were more problems but I am drawing a blank. I may have gotten a bunk one from the factory, not sure.
04 F150 = Has taken a fair amount of abuse and has yet to leave me stranded. I have a 2.5" leveling kit and have beat this truck WAY more than I ever did the Sierra, and just now getting a noise in the front end.
All vehicle makes have their problems, but in my experience the Ford has proven more sturdy / reliable to me.

See, I think the Chevy's look very good from the outside (not as good as my F150 of course) and was looking at buying one when I was shopping. However you are sooo right on the other count. I sat inside the a few and the interior was so 1980's. I was totally turned off of it. In the end I of course made the right choice, but I didn't need the 5.4, thank goodness for options.
Chev. is definatley the quicker truck. These Fords are dogs...its dissapointing that you have to have an intake, tuner, and exhaust just to think about running with a stock Chevy or Dodge.
I dont know how these "which is faster" threads get turned into reliability/styling/dependability threads either, but my 06 F150 will have just as many problems as our 96 and 03 Chevys that have been beaten harder than all the trucks on this site combined (farm trucks), my truck is already headed there...
My interior rattles like a bish, every time I close the back 1/4 doors the bottom of the door panel unsnaps and falls away from the door, where the two doors close together they rattle like there is no tomorrow, broken stuff off from under the truck just from going through snow drifts,offroading, etc etc.
Various things that make me 100% sure that its not going to hold together any better than the Chevys. Granted, Im not comparing it to the new 08 Chevys tho either, nor does my truck really have an easy life either (although not that hard in my eyes).
They all have their problems guys, Ford isnt perfect either.
Hell, in the shop we all rag on Fords more than any other brand out there

, I bought a truck to use it as a truck, not a car
