fuel filter install

Anyone have any suggestion on how to get the front part of the filter off. I got the backside with the blue clip. The tool and plastic piece is what I am having a bitch of a time with. Yes I do have the right tool. I push the platic piece into the fuel line but then I don't have any room to use the tool. Pictures of that front portion with the tool in place would sure help. I have searced but all I find are pictures of the section with the blue clip.
Thanks.

If I do that then there is less room for the tool to go on. I can't even put the tool on pulling it out as far as it will go.

put the tool on then push the line on harder then slide both the tool and line back, the tool will hit the stop and the line should come off

after putting the filter back on and taking a little break I went back out and tried your suggestion. Except I started at the front first and then took the back side off and it went ok. I went off what the manual said for the filter, FG986B and it wasn't right. The guy at advanced auto parts gave me a number of F65574 but didn't have it so I went to autozone and he looked at that part number and it wasn't right either. He ended up showing me a Luber Liner Fuel Filter Part #FF756 and that one worked and it was only $8.09 plus tax. What an evening. Typical for me. What should take 10 minutes takes me several hours. LOL

Don't let them get to you, neither one of them knows how to tell time.

I fit under the back of the truck, but that damn frame under the middle is just too low.

I've never had a problem with mine. 75,000 miles and 5 fuel filters. I use the plastic Lisle fuel line tools. And that blue clip, I never would have thought that could be a problem it's a pretty simple setup IMO.

I did not have a problem the first 3 time on mine but on the 4th change, could not get the line on the outlet side off. I finally gave up and took it to Quick Lube place and watched while they wrestled with it. They eventually yanked it out, pulling the clip out of the line. They had replacement clips. Said they rusted simetimes and it would not let go. This is not the blue clip on the inlet, but the one on the outlet side. They also said that sometimes they would freeze open and not clamp on to the new filter and have to be replaced. Bout time to do it again, so will be interesting to see how their replacement works.

OK, what do you do to handle the gas in the lines?

Do you just pull the filter off and let the gas drain into a bucket? Does it shoot everywhere or just dribble out?

Need some input.

Thanks.
