E-85 and Gas Theives

We just got an E-85 station here, and I am trying ny 1st tank. I am considering taking my locking gas cap off to try to cause the local gas theaves problems. The were getting 5 gallons per week, until I caught on.

How were they stealing your gas? Siphoning can't be done so were they disconnecting a fuel line? Drilling a hole in your tank?

Haha do it. Screw them. It will be worth it for only 5 gallons. But if they are taking 5 gal from you and 5 gal from x and another 5 gal from y and so on... then that little bit of E85 wouldn't make a big diff would it?

5 gallons of E85 is not going to make much of a difference.

I've ran E85 in my non-flex fuel Escape about 2 1/2 years ago, and noticed no difference... but I wouldn't want to consistantly run it. I ran it only to see what would happen. I wouldn't want to run it in my pushrod F150 though.

It'd take a hose about the diameter of a drinking straw to fit down the filler neck and get into the tank. Siphoning fuel out of vehicles nowadays, a few exceptions aside, just ain't happening through the filler neck.

could you rephrase that? I have no idea what you're trying to say

is someone stealing your gas?

how does removing a locking gas cap cause gas theives problems?

and why would they only steal 5 gallons/week?

or are you talking about using e85 and that the "theft" of your gas is actually because the ethanol has alot lower MPG?

I think what he is saying is that he was having gas stolen out of his truck periodically. Now he is trying E-85 and he is hoping that the low life thieves are putting the gas into a vehicle that isnt E-85 compatible.

As far as impossible to have gas stolen out of the neck of a late model F-150 goes, its possible, not sure how, but its possible. I too had some gas stolen out of my '06 about 2 months ago. I stopped and put gas in my truck one day, only put around 10 gallons in it because its my 2nd vehicle and I only use it to tow my boat. Well after putting the gas in I drove home which is about 10-12 miles, and parked it, it sat for 3 days, I go out and get in the truck, start it up and it tells me low fuel. At that time I thought that it was pretty strange that it was saying I was low on fuel since I knew I had put fuel in that last time I drove it. I went ahead and ran out to the local station (2 miles away) to put gas in, when I opened my fuel door my cap falls down and hangs by the teather. Its at that point that it clicked in my head that someone had definitly stolen gas out of my truck, I would never just stick my cap behind the door without screwing it in, and if by any chance I just forgot to put it back in it would of just been dangling and not tucked in behind the door. I dont know how they did it, but I know it was done and it appeared that it was taken from the neck since the cap was unscrewed and just crammed in behind the door. I since havent had any problems with missing fuel. Knock on wood!!!

Oh, BTW, my parents live just down the street from us and that same week they noticed the same thing happened with their Explorer Sport Trac. For both of us it was like they stole around 5 or 6 gallons of gas, which would make since if they were carrying around a 5 gallon gas can to syphon into.
