New Self Made Exhaust Installed

Well I always want something a little diffrent than everyone else so I decided to go with a side exit exhaust. After getting several quotes over $150 to do it I decided to attempt it myself. I used the chambered Force muffler from Summit,$32.99, single 2.5" in and duel 2.5" outlets. I also found 2- 3" chrome tips from Ebay for $20.00 shipped. They were 24" long with slight scatches. This is why they were so cheap. I was really supprised at the quality, the scatches were hardly noticible.I then had 2 2.5" extensions bent at a 45 deg angle at my local shop for $10. So for $63 + my time I have a new custom exhaust. I will post some vids as soon as I can but here are the pics.

How did you connect your systems to the factory??
Clamps or did you have to weld it on...

What is the diameter of the factory pipe where the cat back section connects?

THIS IS NOT A TEST...

I connected right past the factory y connection. The factory pipe had a deep crimp in it so I cut it off and connected there. the pipe was 2.5" o/s diameter. I clamped the muffler on there so I could remove it if I have to. I will be changing the u-bolt clamps for the better band clamps as soon as they get here. I welded the extensions and tips onto the muffler instead of clamping them there. i figured the weld would hold up better and I didnt have to worry about it slipping. I get some pics in a few minutes as well as a short vid.

So he's not the best welder in the world, who cares? I bet the first time you guys picked up a gun you dribbled some **** too.

I think you did a good job... looks good (I'm biased though because I run the Maggie 16616 system), and you saved yourself a ton of dough.

Yea, I know the welds suck, best I could do with a 110v wire feed welder, laying on my back in the rain. I had to keep a tarp over the welder and as much of the truck bed as possible. Still had water running down the drive across my back. I intend on grinding them smooth and re-doing my work as soon as I get a chance.

if you plan on redoing the welds unclamp the muffler and take it off so you can put the whole thing on a table, i usually just tac weld it on the truck then pull it off to finish the welds

Thanks for your advise. Just completed taking it off at the y joint, grinding the mess, and rewelding everything on the bench. Looks much better now and even got rid of the muffler clamp.

If you don't like the weld, just remove and use a dremel to grind down. It will look even cleaner than a bead weld anyway.

A 6" angle grinder would burn a hole right through the pipe.

Better to be there all day fixing a bad weld than spending 5 minutes chewing through $5 worth of cheap exhaust tubing.
