Does this sound right?

I have an 04 f150 new body style. I cracked my windshield (im guessing with a rock) and it requires that the windshield be replaced. Well of course my insurance deductible is $500 bucks. So I dont think im gonna use insurance (freakin scammers) so I got a quote for my windshield. If I want the f-150 logo on the truck it will be $430.75 and they said that comes with solor guard? I dont know what that is so if you can explain awesome.

If I dont want the logo, it is only 221.60. and that doesnt include this "solar guard". Are these good prices or could I do better.

Im in Houston Texas if that matters at all.

This is just a guess, but it sounds like the "solar guard" is a tint. I don't think you want it without a tint.

Why not just buy the $221 w/out the solar stripe and then pay a tint shop $20 to put you a strip on the windshield.

I think the solar guard means its polarized and blocks out UV rays

Your glass deductible is $500? That's your fault, not the insurance company's.

Wow, I have never paid a cent for any of my replacement windshields - you should ask your agent about it - it should be covered by your comp coverage, assuming you carry it . With a newer truck I always do. You might want to look into it.

Ya I called my agent already and he told me we have a $500 deductible for this, and like weve seen most windows are not even near that but if we were to lower that deductible then our rates would increase (hince my scammer comment). Also if Solar guard blocks out Uv rays I would want that for my dashs sake, and I already talked to a tint shop about putting a strip across the the top and he wanted I think 40 for it, which isnt bad so I might go that route.

I just wish I knew what the heck Solar Guard is, I looked it up online and I couldnt find much out except when it reflected the sun light the windshield appeared like a mirror but im not even sure if this is it. Ill just call them back later and see if they can tell me what it is.

Just called the insurance guy back, and he clarified that windshield replacement is under the comprehensive coverage which is a 500 deductible. Where as windshield repair is where the waive the deductible

That sucks, Ive had about 6 windshields replaced over the last 10 years and never paid a dime. Why pay windshield insurense if its less then the deductable. Is sucks that we pay all this money for insurence and cant use it.

Not to add insult to injury but FLORIDA has a zero deductible on windshields, I just had my wife's Audi replaced!

I would say do the cheap one and go to a tint shop, you will come out ahead
