08 FX4 Scab w/ 20's and 3.55

I bought my truck with these options and have been very disappointed with the results. My truck seems to be always " looking" for a better gear, therefore, killing my mileage. I thought this was just the way the dealership had ordered the truck but I noticed on the Ford website that this is the only way to build a Scab FX4 with 20's. I can't understand why they would do that . Any ideas ?

I am going back to the dealership on Tuesday and see if anything can be done to improve this .... any suggestions ?

Let me rephrase this ... Is there anything I should have the dealership look for that can be done under warranty ?

I realize the problem can be fixed with new gears, I just am not really pleased with buying a 28K truck that I need to sink another $1200 into to run properly. I'm wondering if maybe there is something with the PCm that can be fixed ?

Maybe there's a Dealer PCM reflash available to cure your problems.

My truck came the same way. There is not much the dealer can do. Custom tuning doesn't help much either. 3.55's are way too tall of a gear for a 3 ton truck with 32" tires. These trucks should have 4.10's with the 20's from the factory.

You basically have two options, learn to live with it, or change the gears. If you change gears, go to at least 4.10's, the cost is the same no matter what gear you choose. The general rule is to go at least 2 steps up or down on a gear change, otherwise the difference is not enough to make it worth the cost.

I have an 06 and I tried getting it reflashed twice since I bought the truck. For me, it is most noticeable when you are in traffic and the truck is constantly searching for the correct gear after you slow down - then speed up.

I sort of learned to live with it.

Just got the same combo last month, wanted the 3.73's but this truck was the right color with all the right options except for the gear. All i can say is I came from a 2002 with a 4.6 and 3.55's and if you think our trucks shift a lot you should have driven my old one, the 08 with the 5.4 and 3.55's is sooooo much better, but all said and done I really wish I could have found my truck with 3.73's.............oh well.

Custom tuning cures this. I have 22's with 305/40-22 tires and 3.55 gears and the tranny shifts perfectly.
