E-fan folks....yes or no?

Ive checked out alot of your posts about e-fans. Seems a 50/50 split on peoples opinions on them. Im in lower AL now and man is it hot. A/C in these trucks just don't cut it here.....e-fans sound like a fix for that.....plus the other benys like hp and mpg's. If i order them it will be in about a week and a half. Any last min info or advice from anybody? Im thinking troyer fans and probably find a local shop to install them for me.

I was personally looking at the JDM electric fan. http://www.teamjdm.com/shop/product_...products_id=25

I really like the kit because it has a fan shroud which I need for my whipple's coolant reservoir. Plus they use it on their 12 second Saleen. They gain power and MPG because the Fan/Clutch weighs 11 lbs according to JDM. Rotating mass takes away alot from a motor which is why people often go light weight pullies and try to remove as many things as possible from the serpentine belt.

build your own kit, other wise you will be spending 3-6 times the money, search on here for patmansprcrw he did his own homemade setup fo i believe under $100 and honestly its just as good as any other kit on the market except hell of alot cheaper, and easier and cheaper to replace any broken parts if need be

I have the FAL 270 shrouded kit. It works wonders helping all of the truck's cooling systems during the summer. I've had a couple of self inflicting problems, that rendered my truck in-operable though. Boy, when you lose them in 95 degree heat, the truck goes quickly. After stopping at a stop light, my temperature gauge pegged in a matter of seconds and my truck went into reduced power mode. However, after I got "my" problems worked out, they've been very reliable and helpful. I'd say "yes".

it pegged in seconds because its not a real gauge, its more of a dummy light, it will go up to 240ish before it moves

o and anyone considering efans dont use the plastic push rods that go through the radiator to hold it up, i used a screw into the lip on top of the radiator then used a rod on the bottom to just hold it in place but has no weight on it

If you go with the fans do not mount through the radiator with the zip ties. This method is a leak waiting to happen. Get a set that mounts to the old fan shroud supports or something to that nature. The Troyer kit is basically all the components put together from several sources. I would recommend just buying the stuff your self instead of going that route. The Flex 270 or the Jugnes kits are nice set ups that have the fans in a shroud and are the preferred kits due to their design. They are expensive but worth it. I have the Flex kit. Tip: Mount your fan controller away from the heat and elements to avoid future problems. On top of the fan shroud like the instructions specify is not good.

for y'all who have done it

do you just remove the fan from the pulley and leave the pulley installed, or did you remove the fan pulley as well (isn't that where the water pump is as well?) and what belts do you use?

sorry, haven't looked under my hood for a month or 2

the fan attaches to the water pump pulley, no need to change belt and keep the pulley

ive had the jusnes fans for 2 years and about 60,000 miles ive bought 2 new fans and 2 new controllers and 3 holes in my radiator, now granted i drive ALOT and in a very hot environment (its over 110 for a good 2 months or more here) every time something failed i was sitting in traffic in over 115* heat

so moral of the story even an expensive kit can go out so why not buy the components separate and eliminate the middle man

hell maybe i should just start making my own kits, i could make a small bracket and build the controllers on a bracket....hmmmm

You honestly should. Get some controllers that are worth a damn and find a way to mount them that wont damage the radiator and they would sell like hotcakes

if i did, i would use cheap easy to replace components, because honestly everyone here has seen several several people blow controllers or relays or fans so my kit would include 2 fans with a high cfm and a small bracket (aimed the correct way, youd be surprised how many fans are backwards)3 relays and a temp comtroller that can be purchased at autozone(which many people on here are now using and i havent heard of one blow yet) of coarse the relays and controller would be wired up already and attached to a small bracket that you would just remove a bolt from your truck to mount it, then run a single wire into the cab's fuse box with a supplied add-a-fuse type thing (pull out a fuse put the add a fuse in and put the old fuse in aswell) then run a wire to the ac compressor, 2 wires to the fans and ground everything

Do it! Nobody has faith in the current kits out there. If something was put together that worked well, was priced right and could be trusted to work it would sell
