Long Tube Headers

headers? Ive read all the threads here where you get twice the performance from the long tube as the short tube, but it may be a PITA to install. Well ive had the shorty headers, and they were a PITA as well. Who here has them installed and can give some quality feedback? Im just exploring different options and if i go exhaust first, i want to do a complete manifold back setup to where i wont be changing anything after i dig in it the first time. I know i want a magnaflow dumped behind the axle, but im deciding if i want to do the headers or not.

Headers on a stock truck will be mostly for sound. You might pick up a few ponies or Ftlbs at the rear wheels, but it will be very few.

I have installed bassani shorties before and, let me tell you, I will never do it again. Id rather install a twin turbo kit on a car than mess with those bastids again. Long tubes are, usually, easier to install.

Just remember, you will dropping $1000-$1300 for longtubes (and possibly mids) if you decide to do it yourself.

American Racing Makes a nice piece, as does dynatech.

...PITA doesn't stop there

Yep, once they're on make sure they stay on because to PM headers is equally a PITA. Be sure to install locking header bolts: ie. http://www.stage8.com/products_lhb.html

I had JBAs on both my mustang and '95 Tahoe and chasing down exhaust leaks at the manifold is time NOT well spent, IMHO.
