Cracks in Akebono Pads
Cracks in Akebono Pads
I bought Akebono Ceramic Brake Pads in February 2007 (ACT1011 and ACT1012). I've had squeal for last few months and finally got the time to take a look at the pads. The front pads have several cracks on the pads which I believe is causing the squeal. I contacted Rockauto (I purchased the pads from them) and they told me the warranty was 30 DAYS! I'm pretty surprised, does this sound right? I can't get ahold of Akebono Corp to verify. If this is correct, I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THESE PADS.
I bought Akebono pads at about 5K miles and havn't had a lick of trouble out of them yet. 48K miles on the clock.
The truck brakes quietly and quickly. And, the front puts off less dust than the rear.
Mine may be craked too.. I don't know.

Yeah, I lubed the caliper bolts when I changed the pads. I never had the rotors turned, would that cause the pads to crack? I haven't had a chance to call Akebono yet to see if they'll cover them under warranty.
Is it better to have the rotors turned then install the new pads or install the new pads then have the rotors turned?

I contacted Akebono and they are calling their product development department. Akebono said they will probably issue me new brake pads, but they have to make some calls first. I'll keep you posted and give you the info just in case someone else has the same problem.
