Question for the experts!
OK,
A friend of mine owns a:
2003 Chevy Silverado 1500HD (4wd, Quadrasteer, Crew Cab, 6.0lv8)
I have a couple of questions:
1) where can I find the max towing for this? I found this link and it says 9,900 pounds Do you think this is right?
2) Is it true the 1500HD is essentially a 2500? If so why would they call it a 1500?
The reason im asking is because since I bought my 2008 FX4 he has been saying he can beat my truck, in a race, towing, payload, etc... Im just trying to find out if thats true. I was told by the dealer that my FX4 can tow 11,000 lbs is that correct?
Sorry for the long post, these chevy guys can be pretty annoying at times and I cant always defend properly, need a little ammo
Anyway, thanks

Yes, the Chevy 1500HD is a 3/4 ton (2500 non-HD). The reason for the 1500HD, as I've heard, is because back when other truck makers started offering the 1/2 4-door crew cab, GM didn't have one. So instead of designing one from the ground-up, they just took their already-in-production 2500 crew-cabs, rebadged them as 1500HD (to attract the large 1/2 ton market, and to compete with other 1/2 CC's), and called it a day. It's basically a 3/4 ton badged as a 1/2 ton. It has a full-floating rear end, 6.0 v8, the HD tranny, and I believe it has 8 lugs.
As to whether or not it can beat your truck in a race, I have no idea. But it can definately handle more payload and towing. From what I know, it's similiar to the F150HD (payload package), but a little stouter.

Also, great answer on the other, I just didnt understand why they would badge a truck as a half ton and then claim its really a 3/4ton, now i do...
Not just because of the racing... Usually it's younger people who care about who has the 'better' toy/truck/boat etc.
If your truck can do what you ask it to, who cares what your neighbor, buddy, co-worker, whoever thinks. Usually those guys are trying to make up for something else...

Don't know about the max towing #'s, But my last truck was an 2003 2500 (non-HD) 4x4 CC with the 6.0 V-8. Basiclly the exact same truck as your friend has without the quadrasteer. It had 300hp and I think 365 or 368 tq. Not sure about the torque #'s........any how It pulled great, and I never had a problem towing. The most I towed was a tractor and trailer to the deer lease a few times, tractor/trailer probably 10,000 to 11,000lbs.
As Bamorris2 said, the 1500HD was just an non-HD 2500. If I remember right, the quadrasteer towing #'s were a little less than with a standard rear axle. I'm not entirely sure of this, but do remember something about that.
I would agree that the Chevy would pull more than our F-150's stock and without the payload package. Now with the Payload pkg, I think they have comparable towing #'s.........I Like my F-150 better though, definately a better truck inside and out.

I find it fun to argue about trucks over a couple beers. My friend is a Dodge guy and cant stand Ford. We always go back and forth, always in fun of course
Ohhhhhh..............the good ole days!!!
