True Flow makes a drop in air filter that some say is better than the K&N. Regardless you're not going to gain a thing other than not having to buy new filters, you'll just have to clean this one. Buy the Airaid Jr. kit, it comes with a new tube and a drop in filter for your factory air box. It's a nice set-up and it'll actually give you some power.

I've been looking at a K&N drop in filter as well. And have read on here before, coming from more than one person, that CAI would do little to nothing for hp and mpg when compared to an aftermarket drop in filter.

Lately i've been hearing a lot of complaints about the K&N drop in with over oiling and the MAF, so i've been looking at others. But, aside from AEM, K&N is the only "aftermarket" filter i could really find. I looked on modbargains but all they have is full CAI for the S&B. Any further suggestions?

i just bought a k&n drop in yesterday. i was gonna get an AEM or AFE dry drop in, but i didnt feel like order it and waiting for shipping. so i bought a k&n from pep boys. i can't notice a difference. but as previously stated, its an investment. its supposed to last the lifespan of the vehicle. and everything claims better flow. and that works for me.

Yep, 100% of the guys that can't follow instructions and "oil lightly" coat the MAF in oil. I have 70,000 miles with mine, cleaned it 3 times and have never had an MAF problem.

I'm confused. Are you trying to say that a drop in filter gives almost the same performance increase as a CAI? I hope that's not what you mean. A drop in filter is not going to give you anymore power compared to a stock filter. A CAI WILL increase power, especially when custom tuned for it. Personally, I'd go with the S&B CAI. I had one in my 2006 F150 and loved it. I don't like the idea of a exposed air filter in a truck or something that sees offroad use.

I had thought a CAI would give an increase in power, but i also read some and saw that some people had thought it didnt do much unless you combined it with a full exhaust upgrade, tunes, edge, etc.. so i was a bit confused, shoulda frased that as a question i guess.

I would like to get the S&B after hearing everyones praise of it, but i'm pretty sure its not a closed CAI for my year truck ('97-'03). Infact, i'm not sure i've seen any closed CAI sold for my year truck, unless you modify an aftermarket one. Is the S&B a dry flow just like the AEM?

Thanks

Cody

CAIs will give you gains regardless of any other mods. Custom tuning with a CAI give even bigger gains. Anything else and it doesn't really matter. The S&B uses a oiled filter. I don't like the no oil filters, personally.
