mine sometimes sticks a little bit the biggest thing is to make sure you have the key ALL the way in. And make sure you push down a little as you turn it. I have found this is the only way to get mine to unlock. Hope this helps....
Sometimes with new keys you have to work off the really sharp edges that are because of a new cut key. You can achieve this by lightly buffing the key or use a powder graphite like substance you can purchase at any hardware store.
I've been reading allot about these POS thieves that aren't even going that route much anymore. Instead, they just drill a hole in the gas tank and fill up their containers. This is one time I wish my truck was lowered. I have the skid plate package but the cover over the tank is plastic.
Imagine that. I'm sure this has been mentioned many times here before but it's still happening.

Yes they are, but that won't stop someone with cordless drill and a 1/2 inch bit to make your day miserable. It's not just the cost of the fuel and tank, but if they are lucky enough, they can wipe out the pick up and sending unit too. I live in a bad part of our town and getting paranoid lately. I wonder how much it would cost to place cameras under my truck? Wouldn't that be cool to watch the under carriage of my truck for hours. Or mayby just move. Damn crackheads!

i understand exactly how you feel. There is really no way to defend against this type of theft except by securing your truck in a garage.
Plus there is no way for the thief to determine how much fuel you have in your tank. So they may destroy a $800.00 tank for $20.00 worth of gas.

I have the same gas cap from Moss that you ordered! When new, the locking mechanism was a little stiff like your mentioning. I sprayed some graphite lube lock into the keyhole & it is as smooth as silk now! I also think that after some use they get broken in & work so much better! Try the liquid graphite lube, it did the trick for me!..............
What about when you drive some where and have to leave your truck for a while? I was out of town parked at a hotel. I even was parked right by the doors so nothing would happen to my baby. I checked out the car and wiped my eye brows, nothing happened. I started driving home and the message center displayed "Check Gas Cap" so my mind is starting to wonder what happened. I figured someone either tried to steal my gas or someone put something in my tank. Well I get home and open the gas door. The cap literally fell out. There was no sign of anything being put in there and it's been fine.
I ended up ordering a locking gas cap from RockAuto.com. The cap is made by Stant and it works perfectly. I've heard that some of the locking gas caps, the lower quality ones, will cause problems with the same code, "Check Gas Cap" or "Tighten Gas Gap".

A locking gas cap is stupid IMO. People are going to get the gas however they can so wouldn't you rather them just take it with no harm to your truck versus drilling holes in your tank? I certainly would.
I work in the commercial truck industry and diesel full getting stolen is becoming quite common. A lot of people use locking caps as well but there are a number of ways around it and I've seen it.
