New Saleen...already in the shop...

When I got the S331 I noticed that the low tire pressure light was on. I didnt think anything of it as I know how sensitive those things are. When I first drove it, it felt like it was "surging." I figured the computer just had to "learn" how to drive. When I got it up to 70mph, I noticed a vibration...that, definitely needed to be taken care of.

This past weekend, I finally got to take the truck out on the open road, rather than in traffic. It would surge at part throttle or when I put the Cruise on. Literally...the boost gauge would jump from vacuum to as much as 2psi...back and forth...back and forth. I finally drove the truck at night and saw that the tire pressure light was still on!

So, I went to a saleen dealer yesterday and dropped the truck off. I got a call in the afternoon and the service rep lead off by saying "I dont want you to get mad, ok?"
She said "your wheels are out of balance (350 miles on vehicle). We cant balance a 23" wheel and Saleen said we couldnt take them anywhere else to have them balanced under their warranty."
I asked what I should do and she said..."there are a couple of local shops that will balance them, but you will have to pay." I said...I dont think so.

Next item....You have low pressure in your tire because you have a nail in it. We cannot plug or patch a speed rated tire. A new tire is going to be a little over $500.

Lastly..."We called Saleen about the surging issue and they didnt know anything about it. They did, however say that if you have less than 1/4 to 1/2 of a tank of gas, that the truck will spit, sputter, and surge if you have the cruise on."

At this point, I really felt like saying "WTF?" FOrtunately, I had called Saleen earlier in the day and spoke to a Tech and he told me that the surging issue was common and they had a new computer calibration that was suppose to solve the issue. I told the dealer about this and she called Saleen back to confirm. The tech she spoke with said..."I have no clue what/why the other tech told you that. (regardint the 1/4 to 1/2 fuel excuse)"

I called the dealership where I got the truck. They said they would pay for a new tire and work out getting the tires balanced. But...well, we know how that goes sometimes with dealers. I guess next time I receive a vehicle, I will check all of the tires for nails.

Sorry for the long rant/post. Here is a peanut butter jelly time banana

I had to deal with Saleen's "tech support" (and I use that term very loosely) with a problem I was having with an S281; Ray Charles could have been more helpful than these frickin' people. Saleen's customer support sucks. Good luck in getting your truck squared away.

I don't understand why Ford is not doing in-house mods anymore.

Third partying everything to me is like me modding my truck by sending to my local shop.

You don't deal with for you deal with the third-party! Which sucks.

Quintin, that is exactly what the dealership told me. The service rep told me she talks to them all the time and it is a headache.

Fortunately, the Customer Service rep that I spoke with regarding a different issue was very nice. The tech that I spoke with was also very nice and very knowledgeable. At least I have a name now of a knowledgeable tech at saleen.

Thats a beautiful truck, sorry to hear about your early problems. Hope everything gets worked out.

For them to expect you to pay for anything is absolute insanity, you just bought a brand new truck!

I have been told that all this "3rd party modding" is due to the upcoming and ever changing CAFE standards. These trucks are built by Ford as EPA legit units and therefore don't hurt the manufacturers avg MPG standard that they must meet. If modified after the fact by 3rd party, the MPG / EPA standards don't apply to that vehicle at that point.
So as long as it comes off the line as a built vehicle, as it is built is what Ford has to certify.

And remember, Ford doesn't have much of a SVT dept left anymore. (if any)

im pretty sure warranty doesnt cover tires go to a tire shop and get your tire plugged yes they will do it on a speed rated tire, and get it balanced, most places will balance for free, if you go to discount tire buy cert's for the tires which is basically warranty and they will replace the tire if you get a non reparable flat

Truck was, more than likely, delivered with a nail in the tire...since the tire pressure sensor was on when I got it. Im pretty sure that should be covered. The dealership did say that the wheel balance should be under warranty since the truck had 125 miles on it when I got it and the wheels were out of balance.

I would never expect a dealer to pay for a nail in my tire if I got it there myself...

I was just informed that the computer will take two weeks to be fixed. It has to be completely removed, sent to Saleen, recalibrated, sent back, and reinstalled

Thump why are they removing his computer just to reload software? Why cant they put it on a Xcal3 type devide and do a update in the shop? This all seems a bit rediculous. I have a feeling our buddy here is getting told a couple lies while they put him on the back burner
