F-150 Air Conditioning

This was the first time I needed the A/C in my 08' and I was not impressed?? It gets "cool" at best.....definatly not cold? I just got rid of an 04' 150 and the A/C used to kick a#s!! Is there something different between the newer one and the older ones?? Anything I can do to improve it?? Am I the only one??

I noticed the same thing, went from an 02 that would freeze you out to an 08that is cold but nearly as cold as my 02.

I think the 04-08s pretty much all have mediocre A/C. Mine used to be TERRIBLE but it turned out I had a small leak. I got it fixed and charged up, so it's better now but still not great.

One thing you should really consider to help your AC (if you haven't already) is to tint your windows. It blocks a lot of sun out and keeps the truck a lot cooler.

i've run a/c tests on my '08, vent temp gets down close to 40. that is where it needs to be, make sure you have it on max a/c so recirc is on. also, like MOford21 said, window tint helps alot. if you can't get that thing to cold, you have have a problem and since it's an 08, you can take advantage of that warranty

My 2007 SCrew gets down right cold, even without recirculating air. Yesterday was 101 degrees, and it cooled down the cab in less than 5 minutes. My 2005's A/C was not very impressive.

In my experience, the trucks with digital climate controls have better A/C performance than those with manual controls. The digital will cycle between A/C and MAX A/C and also adjust fan speeds. Whatever it's doing, it does it better than just turning the **** to A/C and the fan on high.

Is the 08 a darker color than the 04? I went from a white car to a similar black car. I thought the AC on the white car was fine and not good on the black car. The dealer checked the vent temperature on the black car and the air was under 40 degrees and it was as cold or colder than it was supposed to be. Even then, it would not keep the car cold in very hot and sunny weather.

Do a search, you will find a lot of info on the A/C performance. I have dark windows and run on max a/c fan speed 2. It works pretty good that way.

Mine works very well... in fact, today the outside of my windows started fogging!

I measured mine with a infrared thermometer, and it registered 34F with recirc on!

If you are driving short distances like a mile or two, chances are you'll start feeling the cool down as you approach the destination. As others have mentioned, the A/C system in the '04+ F150 aren't as robust to suit one's expectations.

It was 97 degrees here today! My AC worked very well! I tinted my front windows 35% to match the factory tint! Maybe it works better that way!...

I am getting this done this week hopefully. It was 100 degrees today and that just did me in. Tint shop opens on tuesday and I will most likely be there. I am getting 35% on the sides and 85 uv protectant on the windshield if they will do it

It's made a huge difference for me. Only advice I have is you *might* want to go 15 or 20% as it pretty much matches the back windows exactly. Then again, it's also illegal, but I haven't had any problems with the law (I have 15%, pics in gallery). I think they focus more on tricked out cars, and vehicles with 5% tint.

The tint will certainly help, but I would also check the charge on your AC system. Mine was just putting out cool air so I bought a recharge kit with a gauge at Walmart (about $20) and found that the charge was only at the minimum of 30 lbs. I added the entire can and brought it up to 38 lbs (it said the max is 45) and it's putting out cold air now like it should.

My 2007 has the automatic climate controls and it still takes a long time to cool down......most of the time I drive short distances, less than 5-10 miles and it usually doesn't get cold until I get where I am going.

Not to compare chevy to ford, but my last chevrolet A/C was cold about 30 seconds after I started my truck and it stayed that way. GM IMHO has better A/C setup, but thats about it..........
