87,89,93 Octane. Which one?

I have a 2007 5.4 V8 FX2 sport and I currently burn 93 octane. I think that teh manual states that I can use 87. I dont feel comfortable using 87 but what about 89 or should I continue to burn 93. The difference in price doesnt bother me. I want to use what ever is safe for the long run. tHanks

Your gonna get a million different answers for this one. I have an 07 Screw 4.6L with CAI and dual exhaust and I run 87 most of the time. Every oil change I will run a tank of 93 with some Lucas fuel system cleaner. There are probably F-150's out there that ran on 87 the whole life of the truck and still got 500k on them. Answers for this type of question will vary greatly. Some people will tell you that you are wasting money running 93, the benefits are probably minimal.

you don't have a high compression or supercharged engine. unless you're having detonation problems, 87 is fine. it's not "cleaner" or "better" than 93 except in regards to octane.

my 97 expy with 173K miles never saw a drop of 89 or 93 as long as i owned it.

Without a tune, high octane generally does absolutely nothing for you unless it pings on 87. Switch to 87 and let your butt dyno and gas mileage calculations make the decision. Just stick with decent major brands and avoid ethanol added fuels if you can.

At the current prices, I'm sticking with 87. Sucks, cause I'd love to run my 93 Performance tune!

Unless you are tuned or towing a heavy load 87 is fine. I have found when I tow heavy loads 93 seems to give me a little more power, but it could just be my imagination.

I recommend running (R+M)/2 standard of Research Octane Number of 91 (RON) plus Motor Octane Number of 83 (MON) to give you a Minimum Octane Rating (MOR) of 87 octane.

In this case I will go in between and start using 89. I will be towing 2 atv's for the memorial holiday. Im going to use 89 then and see how it runs.

87 here for the life of my truck with no problems, stock however. Go with the manual. Anything more on a stock is a waste on $. MPG has been horrible the last few months, but now getting much better with warmer temps and better fuel.

higher octane for cars that require slower combustion due to high compression/forced induction. other than that, nada.

They sell , and I use 85 here in Colorado. Have on every truck Ive owned and have never had a problem. I guess the higher altitude here lets you use lower octane because of a lower compression PSI, therefore less chance of detonation.

Wow you try so hard to sound smart.

If you don't use a tuner set to a higher level, 87 is all you need, just like Ford says. Anything higher is a waste of money.
