87,89,93 Octane. Which one?
run the 93
I run the 93 in everything, period (except the plane 100LL)
you get more power, therefore more milage. there are more detergents to keep jets and things cleaner.
when 87 was a 1.00 and 93 a 1.25 it was hard to explain a 25% increase in price for the better fuel economy. BUT
with 87 at 3.70 and 93 at 3.95 then it is only about 4% more money, with a 10% avg better fuel economy
Hell, I even run it in my lawn mowers. have you ever put the 2 side by side in a class jar? check it out

I'm starting to see more places carrying gas with ethanol added. (10%) What are the pros and cons of using ethanol added gas?
All the ford trucks (expedition n f150) in my family get 93 and the f350 gets diesel.. While the H3 gets 87.. 87 is good if you have no performance work and change the fuel filter and oil offen
Your truck came from the factory tuned to run 87. If you run anything higher without the timing adjusted to take advantage of it, you are just wasting money. If you have a tuner to take advantage of the higher octane, you will see significant power gains as well as possibly efficiency gains. Again, without the tuner, anything hogher is burning money for nothing.

89 is 2% higher then 87 octane for 10 cent more then most 87 or you can go from 87-93 6% more octane for 20 cents more then most 87.. Do the math its gonna cost $100 for a full tank these days no matter what grade.. I have a friend with a stock f350 with the 5.4 2v and he says he gets best milage and performance from 89 octane from chevron
You seem to be missing the point. It does nothing for you to run 89 or 93 unless it has a tune for it. You may even be leaving deposits in the engine by doing so.

My truck run's great on 87 octane with my Edge set on level 2, I do run Shell with no ethanol added. No need to run a higher octane unless you have a high compression engine or running a performance tune set to run 93 octane. Same additives in 87 as in 89 or 93. Also if you tow heavy load's and have hills or mountain's to climb I would then go up in octane only if the engine knock's.
I run 87 in the winter and 93 in the summer with the appropriate troyar performance tunes. before the tunes it was 100% 87. remember higher octane = lower BTU.
my bike runs fine 87... previous owner ran 93 like a fool

Run the lowest octane fuel you can get away with. Anything more without a tuner or any other supporting mods is a waste of money and could hurt performance.
thank you the last few guys who posted this thread was really getting me worked up, if your truck is tuned to run 87 octane you WILL get the best possible performance from 87, if you run 89 or 93 you are actually hurting the performance and wasting money, 87 burns hotter and faster then the higher octanes, so run 87 or throw your money away
