New truck help

After looking at new (er) trucks, I have a few ?s still. The approximate prices for the '06+ trucks are roughly $17k-$19k for XLTs with 20-35k miles, all full power, Screws and Scabs 4x4, one FX4 and one Lariat.

One truck in general is a '06 Scab XLT 4x4, 5.4 with 21k on the odo, LS (3.55?) with trailer tow package, full power with keyless entry, 6-disc, fog lights, and rear slider. Price listed is $17,500. Good price or no?

Second thing is that they have a few "certified" vehicles that come with a 6 yr/100k powertrain warranty. The salesperson stated that if a problem were to happen with the engine, tranny, 4x4 they would cover the cost for $100 deductible. Also roadside assistance is included. I asked why some were certified and others weren't, and he stated that any can be cerified, they just pick. I asked him if I picked out a "non-certified" vehicle could the then give me that warranty (vs 3 month / 3k) and he said yes, for a price (we didn't talk #s).

Is this something that y'all think I should be looking into getting for a "small price?" And if so, at what price should this add to the sticker?

Thanks in advance - this will be my newest vehicle ever owned to date if I proceed this month with it, so bare with me as I want to make sure my bases are covered! Any help is appreciated

With the way trucks are selling now you could probably get a new one for that price.

I could, but that would mean I'd be driving around a 4.6, no 4x4, XL package, no power, etc etc etc. Add $8K more and I could get into a similar package yes, but I don't really want to that much more cash to the equation. Thanks though

I think you could a great deal on a new 08.

Around here on the commercials they are advertising 0% for 60 months AND $2,000.00 cash back!

This is the first I have ever seen them offer both together......they must really want to move them before the 09's hit the lots in September.

With that price I am guessing that you where out at Brenengens? If not which dealership has it?

Does that price include the 6yr/100K mile warranty? The price sounds pretty good. You should price out a new truck also just to see how much differance there is in the monthly payments.

I'm hoping so Josh- within the next few weeks I will have everything in order to go in and actually talk #s, hence why I'm trying to prepare myself here and hope that others can think of something I haven't.

I'm just not so sure that I can get into an '08 at the price I want. I thought of lease to own as an option, but I've never done that and don't know a lot about it. The main thing is that I do not want to go in blindsided and not know what in the heck I'm doing

Would an X-plan pin get me an out-the-door lowest possible joe-blow price available? And I assume on only new trucks? I remember at one point talking to someone on here about that. The 0% really is a nice option at a time when I should be investing in my house instead of a new truck (or so thinks my better half ) Thanks again

Ooops - you typed this as I was replying - yeah, thanks for the tip I went to Sparta (better selection) and they had a few at that price, 2 DSG's with that warranty. Otherwise it'd be 3 month / 3k.

X-plan will get you a little below invoice+rebates, and capping dealer fees at $75.00

Yes for new trucks only.

Its hard to say if it is the lowest possible price you get get, with X-plan it is kind of a set price with it, I know when I bought my truck I got around $11,000.00 off the MSRP without x-plan. I would try to work them first, then tell them you have X-plan and logically the deal should only get better! I know my dealer does not even ask for the pin if you tell them you have X-plan....

If you ask your salesman they should give you a copy of the invoice sheet for the truck your looking at....it tells invoice, holdback, A Z D X plans, that way you know there not BS you

it cost 500 bucks to certify a vehicle according to the local dealer and you get a 3.9% interest rate, well that was in september anyway. i was in the same boat as you last fall, i know what i wanted for a truck and went looking. i ended up buyin my truck from Eau Claire Ford and i'll buy my next truck from them too. there are tons of fullsize trucks laying around, the deciding factor for me was interest rate. the payment on a new xlt screw (but i get the x-plan too) and a used 05 fx4 screw was less than 40 bucks a month. yeah i liked the fx4 but for 38 bucks and some change, it was a no brainer. i aint seen no 06 screws with low miles for no 17-19 yet, hell i'd buy another one if they were that cheap. one thing to remember is that alot of those trucks are lease returns, those things get the snot beat outta them just like the shop loaner up here they just had new 08 scabs for 24grand, thats how id go personally. alot of those trucks they got on their website that cheap are bare bone xlt's with crappy chrome wheels.

^ I bought my current truck 20ish miles north of EAU

There are at least 8-10 '06 Scab/Screw combos where I'm looking - all are XLTs, one FX4, one Lariat, all around 25-35k miles and under $20k. I can get into a STX strip down for 15ish. Sounds like the price is right - I'll just have to go and price them vs. a new truck in 2 weeks. That $500 is good to know on the certification too, as this would cover a LOT when it comes to buying a lease (if I do).

Thanks

You should look at new. I got one a month ago. Stickered 24,500. I was 7K upside down on a lease and only financed 20K on the new truck out the door. They gave me 11K off my 08 reg cab STX. I have power windows, mirrors, fogs and aluminum wheels. I also got an alarm and tint.

For kicks and giggles, see what they'll do on a new one. You may have a better chance of getting one optioned the way you want it and the dealerships are going to be wanting to move the last of the '08 models.

If you should end up going used, I'd definitely opt for one of the 'certified' ones. In order for a dealership to certify a vehicle it has to be under a certain mileage, there has to be a certain amount of tread on the tires, and everything broked or wrong has to be fixed. It is pretty much like getting a new truck with some miles on it with a better warranty. Yah, you could get an extended warranty on a non-certified one, but that's not going to come with free roadside and it's probably going to cost you more. It's also easier to get stuff covered down the road with a certified warranty over an extended warranty depending on the company. Good Luck.
