Quieting the Scab doors

Has anyone come across a way to eliminate the "looseness" of the rear Scab doors. Every time i hit a bump, it sounds as though my doors aren't closed tight b/c the seem to shake (or at least thats what it sounds like). And yes, i've made sure that they are fully latched both top and bottom. Is there any sort of adjustment that can be done to tighten em up possibly?

They will do this if they arn't ''fully'' closed all the way. Try really slaming them then see if you hear the noise. Now I don't mean rare back and smash teh door into the jam, but forcefuly shut it. It worked on mine and haven't had an issue for years.

+1 to Luke

I notice it when the rear door is not solidly closed. It happened a few time and since then I have just given the doors a solid shut (not slam) and it has not happened anymore.

I've tried the slamming technique and doesn't seem to work and I've checked the inside and there's nothing loose. This may be a stretch, but I was wondering if there was an ability to adjust the D-rings around the door frame that the latch attaches. Possibly moving it in just a very small amount may hold the door tighter against the truck when closed? Or, wrap the D-rings with something to create a tighter fit. Again, may be a stretch but has crossed my mind. What do you guys think?

n8er00,

Do take another look at whether your rear door is fully latching at the top. Push the door closed firmly with your hand toward the top then see if the door wiggles at all when you pull on it. The top latch is very finicky and the door will bang around like mad if it doesn't latch completely. I had this problem myself and it drove me nuts for a couple months beofre I finally realized that the rear doors weren't always latching at the top - even when I slammed them (don't do this by the way because it won't accomplish anything. The door will just bounce back and still not latch completely. You have to close it firmly with your hand toward the top latch).

Hope that helps.

Oh, and I also has another annoying rattle that I finally traced to my bed cap - it was installed just a wee bit too close to the cab and it would touch ever so slightly over bumps.

I agree with the doors not being closed all the way. On my rcab, if I don't shut the little doors I get a lot of noise. Even though when I shut the driver/passenger door, the back doors aren't fully closed.

will you hear a legitimate "click" if the door isn't closed and you push in on the top?

Very faintly. I liken it to closing the tailgate. The gates on these trucks are so light, you almost feel like you have to barely close it. When you do so, it gives a light "click" and feels secure. Yet I've had people tell me it bounces around all over the place (in-out.) Now, with a forceful close, it doesn't do that.

I have found this to be quite annoying. Everytime I shut my rear doors I give them a wiggle. If it is not latched there will be 1/4"-1/2" of play. It's just something I learned to deal with though, not really worth complaining about.

Umnmnmm.... I will have to disagree with that statement. Take the gate off and you will see how light they are.

Sorry for the hi-jack. Back to your regulary scheduled topic.

Going to try that. My rear doors always make noise like they aren't properly latched. Everytime I close them I grab the top part to make sure they did lat6ch and I still get rattles like its not latched.
