I paid $3.59 for diesel yesterday. Premium gasoline was $3.39, so I paid an extra $.20 a gallon or $5.00 for the tank. It's not really that much of a difference.

I don't run premium, so it's not comparable. I know here in Houston, 3.95 for diesel is average, 3.10 is average for 87octane. No def you get a great engine and tons of power with decent mpg.. But with prices the way they are markup you pay for that engine it has to really be worth it. Different strokes for diffrent folks.

Whatever you're smoking, please send some to Tejas... it must be good.

To the OP. If you're considering selling your truck, you might as well. No amount of modding is going to cure the itch for you to sell it. Get the 250 and see how you feel about it. If you can afford one, I doubt the poor mileage is going to hurt you much.

Not to mention that the 8" lift and 37s is sure to set you back quite a bit, and ruin your mileage... 37s on a DD doesn't sound very fun to me.

oh okay youre right, thanks for setting my mind on the right path again.

i bought you this tool for my original post.

The aveo was a joke, i still would not recommend the tundra to anyone.

I wasnt kidding about the DMAX.

ANYWAYS, i think the intelligent people over at tundrasolutions have it right. Let me quote one genius from that forum;

The Tundra is a good platform... Ugly truck. Hearing serious problems with the 5.7 and 4x4 is kind of upsetting. BUT, it is the first year of a complete redesign. Toyota is quick to fix things. I'd get one in a year or two if I could afford it.

Why did nobody mention the F250 with the 6.8 V10?? That thing is a HORSE. And yes, it gets worse fuel mileage than a diesel, but diesel is also 40 cents more than gas (in my area at least) and the new diesels get terrible mileage anyway, with the DPF's and all the new emissions crap. So you'd probably be looking at 13 mpg vs. 11 mpg (city)The 6.4 really doesn't have the pedigree that the 6.8 does either.
The V10 is really a reliable, powerful engine...it gets my vote.
The Duramax is probably the best diesel as far as power/mileage, if you're sold on a diesel.

Just my .02

Getting 22mpg is not really my main concern. Really its just me not being able to decide what I wanna do. Do I wanna sell or mod my current. Losing my mpg would not really hurt me. If I stayed above 12 I would be fine. 4.88's with 37's and a tune should keep me above 12. But basically I think Im gonna make that chart hllons4whls suggested and see what I come up with. But Im thinking Im gonna keep mine. And when you think about it, Ive put almost 7k into it already and I do still like offroading. With a new truck, cause it would be and 08, it wouldnt see anything but pavement. Be washed everyday and I dont know if I could handle no offroading. But Ill make the chart and see what I come up with.

I hate to bust you guys bubble but freeky can prob comment with the new low sulfur diseal and particulate filtration system great gas milage is a thing of the past as far as these trucks go. I have two friends with 08s and one with an 06 and the 6.0 gets way better milage my friends with the 08s are getting about 12-13 mpg which is less than my 5.4 so I dont kow if its that big of a benefit anymore. Just power not mileage for the new 6.4s

If you're looking for a beast of an engine, I'd recommend the Cummins. Unfortunately, it comes with a Dodge body!

Seriously though, I'm moderately into RV camping (travel trailer). One of my favorite things to do when camping is make small-chat with other truck owners. Of them all, I think only the Cummins owners never have anything negative to say about their rigs (engine-related). Virtually all of them are extremely happy with that motor... On the other hand, I'd say that about 90% of PSD 7.3 are happy, 85% of Duramax owners are happy, and maybe 75% of PSD 6.0 owners are happy.

Again, this is just from verbal observations with other RV'ers who tow trailers. I have never owned any diesel truck, so I can't comment from personal experience.

hardly, I've seen diesels get 16+ mpg city and in the mid 20's on the highway.

now loaded, those babies don't get good MPG, but they'll get better MPG than a gas motor

where I am at the difference in gas and diesel is about .80... that adds up really quick, especially for all the fools that bought a diesel truck to pull sail boat fuel. Makes NO SENSE

The old Cummins was great, especially the 5.9...There have been some new 6.7's with pretty major problems though.

I had a 2002 F-250 with the 7.3 PS, loved it. Great mileage and power. But I wished I would have spent another few hundred $ and got the F-350. But you're right about the cummins. Worked on many of the mechanical and electronic, clean fuel, oil and air cleaner and they will last you a long time.

the older diesals (6.0s and 7.3s) ect before the new low sulfur and advanced particulate filtration system got that kind of mileage but the new ones dont. All the tests of the 250 theres been a bunch talk about how its agreat truck but gets really poor mileage because of these factors. I have two friends with 08s that get worse milage than my 5.4 and their stock. Just with all the new low emission stuff on diesals it reall cuts down on their mpg. Power remians though, but a 3.70-80 a gallon it better be worth it

What irks me is that diesels burn cleaner than gasoline, even before the filtration stuff. I did a book report on it in the 3rd grade that made the county newspaper!
