Yakima Roof Rack installed

Well I am equipping myself, slowly but surely, for a trip to Yellowstone this summer with my two boys. I'm going to be hauling a canoe and 3 mountain bikes and I tried out the mountain bike rack this weekend. It will be reconfigured for 2 bikes plus a canoe in the middle and a bike in the camper shell.. Still need to find a good deal on a camper shell!

I have a new (to me) Craigslist Yakima rack that I mounted Friday. It took 3 mountain bikes camping with us this weekend. It clamps over the rubber molding (learned that form another user on here!) and it held the bikes to 90mph.. well almost, the square tube bike didn't do well w/ the Raptor bike rack, I'll be swapping that out to an extra fork mount rack. I was concerned about air noise inside and compromising the rain seal at the top of the door. Well the air noise wasn't noticeably higher (80+ mph is enough road/wind noise anyway) but it dumped about 3" of rain last night and the passenger rear floorboard is damp.. I'm sure its the Yakima because I've sealed my third brake light when I did sat radio. I'm guessing I need to fiddle with the mount to change the angle of attack and improve the seal because the other 3 were dry..

Here's a pic, 3 more in the gallery.. and I know the truck is filthy

Looks great. I want to get one also, but don't want to pay full price for it. I've been looking on Craigslist but never sure if they are going to fit my truck or not. I've looked at the "fit guide" and still unsure. Do you have any part #'s that I can keep an eye out for? I mainly need the towers so that they fit (and if I'm not mistaken) any of the other parts will fit once I get the towers on my truck. If possible can you take a close up pic of how the towers attach to the roof? THanks

I PM'ed you on that cap, did you get the PM? Send me some pics bud!

On the rack: Yakima's website has a configurator that tells you exactly what no need but bottom line you need:

- (1) Q Towers (Part # 8000124) (comes w/ 4 towers each package)
- (2) packages (comes w/ 2 each) Q122 clips (part # 8000722), you'll need a total of 4 clips and probably never find the right clips used
- (1) Package of 2 58" Round bars (Part # 8000409)
- (1) SKS Lock Cores (includes 4) Part #8007204
- (1) 50" fairing (if you want it): Part # 8007049
- For my canoe, I bought 8005007, Gunwale brackets, you can see them here: http://www.yakima.com/Product.aspx?Number=8005007

I also have one of these to hold the *** end of my canoe from the hitch:

Bike mounts: OMG there are a ton!! I have 2 Raptors and 2 steelheads.. if your gonna mount more than 2, then buy nothing but Boa's (light weight) and plan on having to remove the front tire each time. Boas are light and cheaper so it keeps the price down if thatis what your after. Trust me with 3 full size bike mounts mounted that whole setup is HEAVY to remove.

Full assortment of bike moutns: http://www.yakima.com/ProductCategory.aspx?ID=6

- Always ask if locks are included when you consider price.. I wanted my stuff lockable.

I took the rack off my truck but it will go back on in a few weeks but once its setup, Ill try and snap a pic but its really simple: Lay it on the roof, open all the doors, and clamp the clamps over the top of the door opening, right over the rubber..

Then I just bought whatever type of bikerack I could find a deal on, there are at least 4 different types.

I have a complete Yakima rack under the house from my last car. Wonder if it will work? i'll have to dig it out.

***Based on the info I entered on the yakima website, the Q Tower part numbers are the same for the car it came off! I can use it on my truck. Cool!!!!

LOL..and I even have a mountain bike to put up there!***

Man I took the rack off my truck because I am traveling this week and I had to park it in the airport in the garage. My truck is a 4x4 w/ the spacer blocks removed in the rear. With the rack on the truck and my 285 Goodyear Wrangler AT's tires, the truck was 6"10" tall and most of the garages have a 6'10" or 6'11" clearance limit. Its a heavy sucker w/ those Raptor Bike Racks on there.. I'll see if I can throw it up there and snap a pic this w/e. Removal was SIMPLE, 4 turns of the 4 locks, lift the 4 clamps and remove..

Mind you it took me 3+ hours to build the rack and install it and tune it to my truck and tune all the bike mounts to be square and the bikes evenly but its well worth it IMO.

There ya go, just need Q122 clips.. make sure to check the crossbar length, you gotta have 58" crossbars for these trucks for the roof, 78" if you plan to build a rack to go across the Tonneau like I may try..

New ebay listing for Q122 clips. You'll need 2 packages (for a total of 4) for 4 Q Towers. Been looking for these and they finally became available on ebay. I ending up paying $27 per package so $54.

I've got it on my watch list. So I need 4 clips right? So I need to get Q towers before I get these clips? I'll bid on them anyhow and hope to get all the other stuff.

Yep, you need 4 clips and there are 2 in that auction. If you can get those that is great, that a good niche item to get off of Ebay. I got my gunwale brackets off of ebay for 50% off of new pricing (it was used gear). The bars, Q Towers and bike racks were cheaper locally via Craigslist.

There's a whole lot of q towers on e-bay, but none of them have part numbers and most don't have what vehicle they fit. Can I just get any q towers that work on vehicles with rain gutters (I think my truck has rain gutters)? Thanks for the help
