Yes you do need Q Towers and no our trucks don't have raingutters per se (old style big lip that runs front to back across the roof). We have integrated gutters that is why the Q Towers are designed to work on. Yakima makes about 4 different types of towers for different mounting types, our trucks use Q Towers. You need 4 Q Towers and 4 Q122 clips and 2 58" Round bars. Add 4 endcaps and 4 SKS locks and you have the base of your rack. Add whatever bike mount you prefer and your good to go.

Thanks for your help. I'll keep my eye open for that part number for the q towers. I e-mailed a few of the sellers on e-bay to see if they would fit my truck since they didn't have part numbers listed. Hopefully I can find one on craigslist or ebay. Again, the look on your truck is awesome.

Hi

I also need to use a rack for my 3 kayaks. The total weight of them is 150lbs.

I was looking at the thule truck system, the one installed in the bed section but they are expensive and cannot be install and remove quickly. however the weight capacity is 400 lbs

The Thule roof rack is 160lbs.
What is the weight capacity of the Yakima roof rack?

By the way, your setup is very nice

You shouldn't have any problems carrying 3 kayaks on a yakima.

On the rack: Yakima's website has a configurator that tells you exactly what no need but bottom line you need:

- (1) Q Towers (Part # 8000124) (comes w/ 4 towers each package)
- (2) packages (comes w/ 2 each) Q122 clips (part # 8000722), you'll need a total of 4 clips and probably never find the right clips used
- (1) Package of 2 58" Round bars (Part # 8000409)
- (1) SKS Lock Cores (includes 4) Part #8007204
- (1) 50" fairing (if you want it): Part # 8007049
- For my canoe, I bought 8005007, Gunwale brackets, you can see them here: http://www.yakima.com/Product.aspx?Number=8005007

I also have one of these to hold the *** end of my canoe from the hitch:

Bike mounts: OMG there are a ton!! I have 2 Raptors and 2 steelheads.. if your gonna mount more than 2, then buy nothing but Boa's (light weight) and plan on having to remove the front tire each time. Boas are light and cheaper so it keeps the price down if thatis what your after. Trust me with 3 full size bike mounts mounted that whole setup is HEAVY to remove.

Full assortment of bike moutns: http://www.yakima.com/ProductCategory.aspx?ID=6

- Always ask if locks are included when you consider price.. I wanted my stuff lockable.

I took the rack off my truck but it will go back on in a few weeks but once its setup, Ill try and snap a pic but its really simple: Lay it on the roof, open all the doors, and clamp the clamps over the top of the door opening, right over the rubber..
Jerry, Thanks for the pics of the hitch mount. Exactly what I was looking for to haul my wifes kayak. Found it at Cabela's for $99. Was thinking about making something simular, but for the cost I would be better to buy it. Thanks again.

Unfortunately the Yakima instructions for the Q122 clips (those for our F150) say to limit the number of bikes carried to 2 and the max weight on the roof to 100lbs. It also says to limit surf/sailboard legth to 8' or less. Well as you can see I'm already over on the # of bikes. I also fully intend to haul my canoe up there with the Extend a hitch to hold the transom of the canoe (its a 16' flatback). I think 150lbs is do-able especially if your going to have something in the bed holding the length of them and sharing the weight.. I know Yakima makes a pretty trick setup called the outdoorsman you may want to check into but it won't work with a Tonneau or Camper shell. Heck if it can hold 3 upright bikes at the speeds I drive it outta do fine Your results may vary.

Impact and Wrench, thx!

Makes me wonder if that 100lbs is per clip set. I have stood on my rack (165) with the megawarrior rack plus extension, lights w/ mounts & wires and not a creak out of my rack. Course I just use the landing pads on my setup with the shell. I'll be putting a hi-lift jack, spare tire, and shovel/axe carrier up there later this week.

I have the Yakima setup, and carry three kayaks with no problem at all. (Two singles and a tandem.)

The two 9.5 foot singles strap to Yakima Kayak Stackers, and the tandem is held by Yakima Hull Raisers. We've also got the Yakima Slide-Out Load Assist bar on the front to help get the tandem loaded.

(This pic shows the rack on my old 2006)
