Yet another HID question

Yes, yet another HID question. I am about to pull the trigger and order some for the heads and fogs. But I was wondering has any one ever had anything go wrong with a kit and cause problems with their vehicle because of it? Things like a ballast shorting out, wireing melting, ect?

Also I am looking for a kit that has both high beams and low beams, like factory. I was just wondering what kits everyone would suggest? I have heard of a few people that I have gotten them all from the same seller on Ebay, HID4U. But I was just wondering about the other kits and sellers that are out there.

One final thing, with HID's is there a differance huge between 9145's and 9005's?

Thanks alot!

a) yes i had a ballast go out because it got mud in it. Tape up the openings good and this wont happen, although it was 20 bucks for a new one.

b) i run 9145s. Ive heard of people having problems with the 9005s melting the housing.

I have the xentec kit in the fogs (9145). No problems yet. Yes the ballasts are a concern with any kits (even on BMW's and Mercedes The ballasts do burn out sometimes). I have had mine for a week with no problems yet. I would not put hid's in the headlights in case they do decide to burn out and your stuck with one headlight. I just did the fogs and they seem to be great. The kit is plug and play ( just specify yr make model and that they are for the fogs). They are more then enough with my silverstars in the head lights. I bought the 6000k lights from hid4u. We will see how they stand behind the warranty if something happens or if they are still in business. Be careful most of these kits are junk, but i decided to go with it just to see how they are. Good luck

Thanks for the replys so far! I just have one last question, does cold weather (like below 0 deg) have any effect on HID kits?

Ive had mine about a year. No problems at all. I got mine from flashplus on Ebay. They are HI/LO. Now the way they work is that its the same beam (one bulb) but they actually toggle upward to create the higher beam. IF that makes any sense. I have an 06 so I am using 9008/h13.

I was hoping that you would see this and chime in about if they worked in cold temps. Since you are only about 40 miles due west of me.

I just bought two kits from HIDNY on Ebay 9005 and H13 high/low. The high low kit seems to use 2 actual bulbs and frankly I would rather the bixenon bulb instead...oh well I guess I have to dance with who I brought. I have not installed them yet because I am waiting for an answer to the thread I started in "other aftermarket" nobody seems too interested in it though....

Here it is if anyone cares...
https://www.f150online.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=326719

I also have a concern with the 2008 fogs...they are smaller so I wonder if they will build more heat and melt?

I am not trying to thread jack but I am not sure how to get the DRL's to work with the HID's...

Here is the link for the High/Low kit...http://cgi.ebay.ca/HID-Xenon-Convers...713.m153.l1262

I get an occasional annoying flicker while driving normally (it just flicks on and off once very quickly), don't have to hit a bump, not sure what it is.

I've had a ballast drop out of it's holder and I ran it over (lol). Zip tie them to the holder.

Just last night both my fogs went out. No big deal, I'll figure it out I'm almost certain it's a wiring problem. First one in well over a year.

To get the Daytime Running Lights (DRL's) not to flicker you will need to run a relay.

cold weather

Sometimes around 15 degree and below weather, my bi-xenon kit will not utilize the hi/lo function. It sticks on the last function "hi/low" the switch was left in. If i pull it in a garage for a bit they will free up. I bought mine from flashplus on ebay. Just sharing my experience...
