Specialblends- hey I'm always bugging you on email about places you go cause we live in the same town, love your truck BTW ......how much prep did you do to the interior pieces??? I'm doing the flow-thru swap and was thinking of painting the new dash black(the sides and the middle) and maybe some other interior pieces. I would like to tackle this myself, if you can lend some info that would be great

cole im just doin the bottom blue plus the flares, mirrors, antenna cap, and all the window switch plates, a few other interior pieces and all the flareside plastics... i see why a shop charges so much for two tone.. its a bitch taping and papering.
interior pieces have all that texture so i just put lots of bully dog then lots of fill primer. ill tell you how it turns out after the base coat and clear. i hope its smooth

as for body work. i started a year ago and it took me about a week to get a bunch of dings and scratches out with body filler and the emblems on the tailgate shaved, primed, and painted. but i only work a few hours on it a day so.... and a year later im finally painting the rest lol

Awesome. I don't know how two tone will look, that's an awfully wild scheme you are going for, but will definitely be unique. How long did it take to sand off the factory paint and what grits were you using?

Lastly, is the body filler the same material as bondo, if I recall bondo does not flex so thats why I'm curious.

Doesn't have to sand of the factory paint off just sand so the new primer/paint will adhere. We used 220 grit then 400 grit then primer, etc at the shop I worked at in the summer.

yea just sand till the factory clear coat is gone. i used 400. it is a pretty wild scheme but its white on blue so i think it will look good. for plastics you get this primer called bullydog and it makes paint stick to plastics and its flexible.

yeah what i meant was if you are redoing the white on top cuz behind the plastic looks like it is primered

o and the plastic you should be able to get it smooth with just lots of primer, lots of bull dog does nothing because it is just an adheshion promoter you just need the entire thing coated, but lots of primer will make it more prone to chipping

did a coat of bullydog and 3 light coats of prime to be exact. came out smooth especially after wet sanding with 400.
