Upgrade speakers
Wondering if upgrading the stock speakers to Infinitis' would change the sound to my stock single cd radio. Want to keep it stock. What other speaker packages would work for an improved sound. Don't want to blow my ears out. Just an overall upgrade in sound quality.
Lookin to spend a lot or a little?
I know you want to keep your stock radio, but really, any speakers you get won't be nearly as good as with a better radio.
If you want to spend a lot, look at something like Eclipse.
If you want to spend sub 100$, maybe look into some Pioneers. They sound better than stock and are maybe 50$ a pair. Alpine also has some fairly nice speakers for about 100 bucks.

I put some pioneer 3 ways in mine.
It sounds a ton better. Even with the stock radio.
Take a look at

They tell you what will fit, and what wont. Plus you get wiring harnesses, and detailed installation instructions.
I get all my stuff there.

Pretty much any decent name-brand speaker will improve the sound. I had a '97 Ranger and got some Polk 5x7's that I matched up to the stock H/U and no amp. Huge difference! I could hear more depth to the sound and everything was clearer. The one's I got were on sale for like 1/2 off the second pair. A lot of it depends on how acute your hearing is and what you're looking to get/spend, but you should be able to improve things for $150-$200.
Now the question is, who is gonna be the first to disagree w/ me?

If you want to make it sound worth a darn look into a product like JL audio's cleansweep or other oem interface products. What these will allow you to do is keep your stock radio and run amplifiers for a sub and component speakers. There are other products out that will let you do this much cheaper than the Cleansweep they are called a "line out converter" these will tap into the speaker wire behind the radio and change it over to RCA. This will not sound as good as the cleansweep or as good as and aftermarket cd player but it will sound fair superior to the stock radio.
If you are trying to do it cheap I would do this, buy a line out converter and this amp

This is a very good amp for component speakers and will give you plenty of power. I would then put these speakers in.

I pulled the stockers and replaced them with Pioneer 2 ways in the front and Pioneer 3 ways in the rear. I also went the extra step of buying a Pioneer 4 channel amp and connected it through the speaker leads to the HU, then I ran an RCA cable from the Pioneer amp to an Alpine amp I already had and used that for a sub. The stock HU sounds pretty good, there's enough bass to shake the rear and side view mirrors.

OK, how about if I buy a upgraded stock 6 disc changer or an audiophile head unit. Will the sound be better with the 6 cd head or better with the audiophile. I don't want to go thru the bother of buying a sub. What my question is, is the 6cd changer head unit a more powerful head unit than the single?

More distortion is produced when running these stock radios at high output levels, which results in some sound quality loss.
