How do you mount bicycles to an f150?

First, this is a great forum, you all see like a great bunch of people with really nice trucks

I am curious, my wife and I have two matching mountain bikes that we enjoy taking to forest preserves and national parks around her house. I was wondering what sort of option their are to securely mount this to an f150, without just throwing them in the bed and letting them get all scratched up?

If you have a hitch, get one of these. I carry my mt bike and road bike on one of these, and they are of high quality and work great.

you can buy the clips that mount to anything that you take the front wheel off and mount it to it.

Then just mount those on some scrap wood and make a little stand out of it.

I was going to say the same thing. Put a board across the back and screw those things down.

sorry, that's my method. you could get a 2x6" and cut it to fit into that slot behind the fender well. then get a mount like the guys above posted.

easy to install, and no bed holes get drilled...plus the 2x6" helps to keep cargo in the back 1/4 of the bed instead of sliding everywhere

They also sell ones like patman posted that clamp to the side of your bed and your bikes run across your bed. I've seen all the above used at the trails when I go mountain biking, but I always used the tried and true strap it down method. Don't need to take the wheels off...not that it's a big deal, but I just run it in and strap it down like I do my dirtbike.

Of course that was with my Ranger. Now I've got a SCab and I just pop the wheel off and toss it in the back seat. That way if I stop somewhere it's locked up.

If you go the route of creating your own with Patman's brackets and a 2x4, don't forget a few of these to hold your wheels.

Bunch of stuff right here.

That's what I did. I bought two of those and bought a board. I then cut the board on the sides at an angle so they stay in place on the on the bedliner. I have to boards in front of the board and the wheel well keeps it in place behind so it doesn't slide anywhere. I built the whole thing for less than $50 including the holders.

Hello, it's nice to see a fellow cyclist on here.

I won't lie, I throw my $2,000+ mountain bike in the bed w/o regard to its apperance. It's a bike, and it will get scratched if you ever have a get-off or other mishap on the trail...

But, if you are looking for something simple, I recommend this:
http://www.macautoparts.net/ProductInfo.aspx?id=511173

It mounts to the truck in about 5 minutes, and bike mount up as quickly as with any other fork mount rack.

Happy riding!

Thanks for the replys. If it was one bike, throwing it in would be ok. But two bikes, driving over bumps, the bikes will destroy each other.

Are any of you putting this in the bed with the 5.5 bed, and still able to close the gate?

Also can this be used to hold the front wheel and the bike? Maybe the front skewer can be unwound enough to make space for the two extra fork ends?

i would make everything out of wood, 2x4's and 2x6's, a couple pieces and it'll cost you like 15 bucks total including good wood screws. id make it to go in the space in front of the wheel well but have wood prongs that would come up to go around the whole front fork with the tire still on and have built in piece of wood to act as a chock, than you just have to lift it up and out and start riding rather than put your front wheel back on, kind of like certain kind of bike parking where you set your front tire in... but it will be big
